Home and Away sees Justin’s secret about Richie come out
Justin struggles to tell David that Richie is living with him and Leah in Home and Away, but his attempts to avoid the truth only make matters worse.
Justin’s attempt to keep the peace in Summer Bay is about to backfire, as his decision to let Richie stay with him and Leah puts his friendship with David at risk in Home and Away.
Justin has been hoping that Richie will find a job quickly and move out before he has to explain the situation to David. However, Richie has other ideas about how to get his life back on track, and Justin’s efforts to steer him towards paid employment threaten to make an already awkward situation even more difficult.
When Richie suggests volunteering at the Surf Club, Justin tries to discourage him. Richie, though, wants an opportunity to prove himself to the community, and he goes ahead with an application for the Bronze Medallion Course.
The timing could hardly be worse for Justin. David has already invited him to lunch, leaving him with fewer excuses to avoid the conversation. Yet when David and Richie cross paths at Salt, Richie abandons his interview with John because he does not want to cause trouble with David.
David is understandably wary about Richie being involved in lifesaving, although he makes it clear that he does not want to dictate what decisions other people make about him. John eventually offers Richie a place on the course, giving him a chance he is delighted to accept.
For Justin, however, Richie’s growing involvement in the Bay makes keeping the arrangement secret increasingly difficult. When David turns up at Justin’s house intending to apologise for what he thinks has been an awkward moment, he gets an unexpected surprise: Richie answers the door and reveals that he now lives there.
Justin is left to explain himself. He insists that Leah’s good intentions left him feeling pressured into helping Richie, who had nowhere to go. David is disappointed that his friend did not trust him enough to be honest, although he hopes they can move past the incident.
The immediate confrontation may be over, but Justin has learned that trying to avoid an uncomfortable conversation can hurt a friendship more than telling the truth in the first place.
