Home and Away: Mackenzie’s Relief Turns to Horror After Levi Is Rescued

Mackenzie finally learns that Levi has been found alive in scenes coming up on Home and Away, bringing an end to the agonising wait for news after his climbing trip with Cash. However, the relief of discovering he has survived quickly gives way to a frightening new reality when the extent of his injuries becomes clearer.

After Mali successfully gets help and a rescue helicopter reaches Levi and Cash, Mackenzie receives the call she has desperately been waiting for. She immediately races to the hospital with Eden and Abigail, where the group discover that Levi is undergoing X-rays following his ordeal.

Cash is already struggling with what happened and admits that he feels responsible for Levi’s injuries. He had been forced to move the huge boulder trapping Levi’s arm after his friend’s fingers began swelling and turning blue, with Levi himself insisting that Cash continue even if the rescue caused further damage.

Eden and Abigail support Cash as he wrestles with the decision he was forced to make. Mali then arrives at the hospital and receives an emotional response from Abigail, who hugs him and thanks him for saving her brother after he managed to summon the rescuers.

Mackenzie’s focus, however, is understandably on Levi. When she is finally reunited with him, the enormous relief of having him back is clear, and Levi makes her promise to stop him from embarking on any more adventures.

Yet Mackenzie struggles when it comes to Cash. Seeing Levi injured leaves her angry about what happened, despite the impossible circumstances surrounding the rescue.

Levi quickly steps in to defend his friend and refuses to allow Cash to take the blame. He knows exactly how serious his condition had become while trapped and makes clear that Cash was left facing a terrible choice between risking further injury and leaving him beneath the boulder.

For Mackenzie, hearing Levi defend Cash does not make seeing him hurt any easier. She has only just gone from not knowing where Levi was to sitting beside him in hospital, and there is still no certainty about what his injuries could mean.

Amelia then arrives with the medical results. There is initially reason for relief when she confirms that Levi has no fractures to his hand or arm, while his head CT shows no bleeding or swelling.

But the news that follows is far more difficult.

Levi is left facing the possibility that he may not regain full use of his hand. He explains the implications to Mackenzie, including the devastating reality that he may never be able to perform surgery again.

For Mackenzie, the reunion she desperately wanted therefore brings a new fear. Levi is alive and safely back with her, but the accident could have consequences reaching far beyond his physical recovery.

There is no confirmation at this stage that Levi’s career is over, and his eventual recovery remains uncertain. What Mackenzie now knows is that the man she feared she might lose has survived, only to be confronted with the possibility of losing one of the most important parts of the life he had before the accident.
