Home and Away: Levi Defends Cash as Mackenzie Turns on Him

Mackenzie’s relief at having Levi safely back takes a difficult turn in upcoming Home and Away scenes when she struggles to accept the role Cash played in his painful rescue. Cash already blames himself for what happened, but Levi is determined that his friend will not carry responsibility for a decision he was forced to make.

The tension comes after Cash manages to free Levi from beneath the huge boulder trapping his arm. Levi had already warned Cash that he needed to move it regardless of the consequences, even telling him to continue if he passed out from the pain.

That is exactly what happens. Levi screams and loses consciousness as Cash attempts to shift the boulder, but Cash follows his instructions and eventually gets his arm free before strapping it up.

Mali’s desperate search for phone reception also pays off, with a rescue helicopter eventually reaching the pair. Once Levi is safely taken to hospital, Mackenzie, Eden and Abigail rush to be with him after finally receiving news about what has happened.

Cash is far from celebrating his successful rescue. Instead, he admits that he feels responsible for Levi’s injuries, despite being placed in a situation where every available option carried serious risks.

Eden and Abigail support Cash, recognising the impossible position he faced. Abigail also gives Mali an emotional hug and thanks him for saving her brother after his efforts to reach help proved crucial.

Mackenzie understandably has a more emotional reaction when she finally sees Levi. Her relief is enormous, but knowing how badly he has been hurt leaves her struggling with what Cash had to do to get him free.

Levi quickly makes his feelings clear. Rather than blaming Cash for what happened, he defends him and explains that his friend was left with no real alternative.

For Levi, the choice had become brutally simple. Remaining trapped beneath the boulder was putting his hand at increasing risk, while Cash could only free him by taking an action that might cause further injury.

Levi had made that decision himself and instructed Cash to act. His defence therefore takes some of the responsibility away from Cash, who had simply been trying to save his friend in circumstances where waiting could have made the situation even worse.

The stakes become even clearer when Amelia delivers Levi’s medical results. Although there are no fractures to his hand or arm and his head CT shows no bleeding or swelling, the news about his hand is far more concerning.

Levi may not regain full use of it, potentially leaving him unable to perform surgery again. For Mackenzie, the possibility that the accident could threaten Levi’s career makes the aftermath even harder to process.

Cash is also left knowing that the friend he fought so hard to save now faces an uncertain future. Yet Levi’s refusal to blame him is significant, because nobody understands the circumstances of that rescue better than the man who was trapped beneath the boulder.

Mackenzie’s anger comes from seeing someone she loves badly hurt, but Levi knows Cash did not recklessly make the decision for him. He asked Cash to take the risk because the alternative could have cost him his hand or even his life, and he is determined that his friend understands he does not hold him responsible.
