Home and Away Lacey’s Richie hatred explained after horror shooting

Lacey is horrified to discover Richie is back in Summer Bay in Home and Away, but her anger goes much deeper than simply disapproving of Abigail's ex.

Richie is the former police officer who almost killed her dad.

What did Richie do to David?

Richie was a probationary constable working under Sergeant David when a police investigation spiralled dangerously out of control.

During a confrontation with suspect Dale, Richie panicked and drew his gun.

David ordered him to stand down and attempted to stop the situation escalating, but Richie fired and accidentally shot him in the abdomen.

David was rushed into emergency surgery and later suffered psychological trauma from the shooting.

When Richie visited him in hospital, seeing him triggered a panic attack.

Lacey's anger also spilled over onto Abigail. When Abigail tried to defend Richie and described the shooting as an accident, the argument became so heated that Lacey slapped her.

Richie subsequently lost his police career and left Summer Bay.

Now he's back because he still loves Abigail.

Abigail eventually agrees to give their relationship another chance, but Lacey cannot understand how her friend can reunite with the man responsible for nearly killing her father.

That leaves Abigail trapped between two people she cares about.

Richie accepts responsibility for what happened, but for Lacey, seeing him around Summer Bay means being confronted again with one of the most frightening moments of her life.
