Home and Away viewers are set to meet Nicole da Silva’s new character Dr Amelia Carlisle as Summer Bay is rocked by a dramatic shooting.

The actress, best known to audiences as Wentworth favourite Franky Doyle, joins the long running Australian soap in scenes that immediately place her at the centre of a major medical emergency.

Rather than arriving quietly in Summer Bay, Amelia makes her debut when a local resident is caught up in a shocking shooting and rushed to Northern Districts Hospital for urgent treatment.

The high stakes situation gives viewers an immediate introduction to Amelia’s skills as a doctor, with the newcomer thrown straight into one of the most dramatic situations currently facing the Bay.

Speaking about the role, da Silva revealed that Amelia is an “interesting” and “complicated” character who has experienced a challenging upbringing.

According to the actress, Amelia has spent much of her life moving from place to place and has become accustomed to never staying anywhere for long. However, when circumstances change and she decides to remain in Summer Bay, it creates a fresh challenge for the character.

Da Silva explained that one of the aspects she enjoys most about Amelia is her determination to pursue a better future despite the difficulties she has faced in the past.

The role marks a significant new chapter for the actress, who is already well known to Australian television audiences through a career spanning more than two decades.

Many viewers will immediately recognise da Silva from Wentworth, where she played Franky Doyle throughout much of the prison drama’s run. Franky became one of the series’ most popular characters and remains closely associated with some of the show’s most memorable storylines.

The character also became an important figure for LGBTQ+ representation on television through her relationship with Bridget Westfall, a storyline that attracted a dedicated following among viewers around the world.

More than a decade after Wentworth first premiered, Franky Doyle remains one of the most recognisable LGBTQ+ characters in Australian television drama, helping establish da Silva as an internationally known performer.

While Home and Away fans may know her best from Wentworth, this is not actually her first appearance in Summer Bay.

Back in 2006, da Silva briefly appeared in the soap in a guest role before going on to build an impressive television career that has included Rush, Doctor Doctor, Love Me and One Night.

Now she returns to Home and Away in a much more prominent role, with Amelia Carlisle expected to become a regular presence within the Bay’s hospital storylines.

Her debut during the shooting storyline ensures she makes an immediate impact, arriving in the middle of a crisis that demands quick decisions and expert medical care.

It also gives viewers a chance to see Amelia under pressure from the very beginning, providing an early indication of the type of doctor she will be within the Summer Bay community.

Home and Away has introduced many memorable medical professionals over the years, and Amelia looks set to follow in that tradition.

The combination of a dramatic arrival, a complicated personal history and Nicole da Silva’s proven acting credentials makes Amelia one of the soap’s most intriguing new additions.

For fans of Wentworth, the opportunity to see Franky Doyle star Nicole da Silva back on screen in a major television role will be reason enough to tune in.

For Home and Away viewers, however, all eyes will be on Dr Amelia Carlisle as she steps into the middle of a shooting emergency and begins a brand new chapter in Summer Bay.
