Home and Away: Harper Forces Tane to Leave as Tensions Explode With Beau

Harper is forced to take control of an increasingly tense situation when Tane arrives with Archie and confronts Beau. Still dealing with the aftermath of Beau hitting her, Harper becomes desperate to stop her son being exposed to the confrontation and tells Tane to leave.

The moment comes as Beau continues trying to persuade Harper that their relationship can be saved, including suggesting they leave Summer Bay together. Harper is already questioning his behaviour, but the arrival of Tane creates another volatile situation she has to manage while trying to protect Archie.

Earlier, Harper decides that she is not ready to bring Archie home and asks Tane to keep him for another day. Tane does not know Beau has hit Harper and initially assumes she simply wants more time alone with him, leaving him unaware of the real reason behind her request.

Harper, meanwhile, is still trying to process Beau’s attempts to explain his violence. Beau apologises and speaks about the violence he experienced during his childhood, but Harper firmly rejects the suggestion that his upbringing can excuse him hitting her.

Beau then tells Harper that he cannot change without her in his life. His words put further emotional pressure on Harper when she is already hurt and frightened, with Beau effectively asking her to remain beside him while he promises he can be different.

His next proposal is even bigger. Beau suggests that he and Harper leave Summer Bay together so they can work on their problems away from the Bay.

Harper does not immediately agree. Instead, she hesitates and becomes increasingly alert to what Beau is asking of her, particularly after everything that has already happened between them.

Tane’s involvement adds another complication. He has already been drawn into Beau’s problems after police arrive at Summer Bay Fit to investigate allegations that Beau has been supplying illegal steroids, and Tane fully cooperates with the search.

Although officers fail to find the drugs after Sonny secretly removes them, Tane is now aware of the serious allegations surrounding Beau. He later gets an even closer look at the steroid operation when he confronts Sonny after finding him hiding more steroids in his locker.

Against that backdrop, Tane arrives with Archie and confronts Beau. Harper quickly becomes concerned about Archie being present while tensions between the two men rise.

Rather than allowing the confrontation to continue in front of her son, Harper makes Tane leave. Her reaction is driven by the need to protect Archie from what is happening around him, even though Tane remains one of the people Harper has trusted with her son.

The situation leaves Harper in an extraordinarily difficult position. Beau has assaulted her, attempted to explain his behaviour, told her he needs her in order to change and suggested taking her away from Summer Bay, while Tane is becoming increasingly drawn into the problems surrounding him.

Harper’s decision to send Tane away should therefore not be mistaken for her simply choosing Beau over him. With Archie present, her immediate concern is preventing her son from becoming caught in an escalating confrontation.

It also leaves Harper with another difficult choice once the immediate tension has passed. Beau wants her to leave Summer Bay with him, but doing so would mean moving away from people such as Tane at the same time as she is already relying on that support to help protect Archie.

For now, Harper is trying to keep her son away from the conflict while working out what Beau’s behaviour means for their future. With Tane now increasingly suspicious of Beau and Sonny, however, keeping these separate problems apart may become much harder.
