Home and Away: David Returns to Work But Jo Spots a Disturbing Warning Sign

David is determined to reclaim his place in the police force in upcoming Home and Away scenes, but Jo fears her father may be pushing himself too quickly. Although David insists he has been cleared to return to work, a troubling moment as he prepares to put his uniform back on suggests the transition may be far from straightforward.

Jo is already uneasy about David returning to duty and questions whether he is genuinely ready. David tries to reassure her that the decision has been properly approved, making it clear that he intends to move forward rather than remain away from the job.

However, his reaction while preparing for work gives Jo another reason to worry. As David puts on his police badge, he notices a splatter of blood on it and wipes it away before having to steady himself.

It is a brief moment, but Jo sees enough to remain unconvinced by her father’s reassurances. Rather than ignoring her concerns, she decides to take action by asking Cash to keep an eye on David when he returns to work.

Jo’s decision shows that she is not trying to prevent David from rebuilding his life, but she does want someone around him who can recognise if he begins struggling. Cash is well placed to do that as a fellow police officer, although he is simultaneously dealing with the aftermath of Levi’s terrifying climbing accident.

David’s return also comes as his personal life remains unresolved. Amelia has already admitted her feelings for him, but instead of giving her a clear answer, David tells Justin that his preferred approach is to avoid her.

Amelia is understandably hurt by the silence and tells Leah that she has been waiting for days after making her feelings clear. With her hospital contract approaching its end, she begins considering whether leaving Summer Bay might ultimately be for the best.

David therefore appears determined to move forward in one part of his life while avoiding another. Returning to policing may represent an important step for him, but Jo’s concern suggests that simply being cleared for duty does not necessarily mean everything will immediately feel normal again.

The upcoming scenes do not establish that David is incapable of returning to work, and his reaction to the blood should not be treated as a diagnosis of what he is experiencing. What is clear is that Jo sees enough to worry about him and wants Cash watching out for her father.

That concern could prove important once David is back in an environment capable of confronting him with difficult reminders of what he has been through. His determination to return is strong, but Jo clearly believes he should not have to prove that he can handle it entirely alone.

With Amelia contemplating her future and Jo quietly turning to Cash for support, David may soon discover that returning to his old job is only one part of moving forward. The people closest to him are watching carefully, and Jo in particular is not prepared to ignore the warning signs she believes she can already see.
