Home and Away: Dana Proposes Again as Sonny Finally Gives His Answer

Dana refuses to let her disastrous first attempt at proposing to Sonny be the end of their story, with the couple finally getting the romantic breakthrough she wanted. After Sonny discovers what Dana had actually been planning, he makes one thing very clear: if he had known she was going to propose, his answer would have been yes.

It gives Dana the confidence to take another chance and ask Sonny to marry her again. This time there are no misunderstandings, and Sonny accepts before the newly engaged couple celebrate with their friends at Salt.

Dana reveals her proposal plans to John

Dana turns to John following the disappointment of her first proposal attempt and admits what she had been trying to do. She had planned to ask Sonny to marry her, only for the moment to fall apart before she could get the answer she wanted.

John has already played a part in helping Dana with her plans, making him someone she can confide in when things go wrong. Dana is understandably left embarrassed, but the situation is not as hopeless as she initially believes.

Sonny has misunderstood what was happening rather than deliberately rejecting the prospect of marrying her. Once the truth begins to emerge, there is still a chance for the couple to rescue what should have been a hugely important moment.

Eden helps Sonny see what went wrong

Eden becomes involved when Sonny opens up about the situation, helping him understand Dana’s perspective. Rather than allowing the misunderstanding to continue, Sonny is pushed towards having the conversation with Dana that they both need.

When they finally talk, Sonny reveals that he would have turned up if he had known what Dana was planning. He then goes one step further by confirming that he would have accepted her proposal.

For Dana, that completely reframes what happened. The first attempt may have ended badly, but Sonny’s reaction was never about not wanting a future with her.

John, Mackenzie, Eden and Abigail later join Dana and Sonny at Salt as they celebrate the news. After all the confusion surrounding the first proposal, Dana finally gets to enjoy the moment she had originally hoped to create.

Eden also gets to see the positive outcome after helping Sonny understand the situation, while John can celebrate alongside Dana after supporting her through both the planning and disappointment.

A happy ending with trouble already waiting

For Dana, the engagement represents a major step forward in her relationship with Sonny. She believes they are now planning their future together, but Sonny is carrying a secret that threatens to complicate their happiness almost immediately.

One of Beau’s clients contacts Sonny during the celebrations looking for drugs. Sonny reluctantly leaves to complete the transaction, keeping Dana completely unaware of what he is doing.

Alf notices Sonny behaving unusually as he leaves, although there is nothing to suggest he knows the reason behind it. It means Dana and Sonny’s romantic breakthrough arrives alongside the first signs that Sonny’s hidden involvement with Beau could become increasingly difficult to conceal.

Dana finally gets the answer she wanted, and there is no doubt that Sonny wants to marry her. The bigger problem is whether their new engagement can survive the secret Sonny is already keeping from the woman he has just agreed to make his wife.
