Home and Away: Cash May Have to Break Levi’s Arm to Save His Hand

Cash is forced into an agonising position as Levi’s condition deteriorates and the two men realise they may not have time to wait for professional help. With Levi’s arm trapped beneath an enormous boulder and his fingers beginning to turn blue, the surgeon tells his friend to take drastic action.

The instruction could leave Levi with another serious injury, but doing nothing carries its own frightening risk. Cash must decide whether he can bring himself to move the boulder when Levi has made it clear that freeing his hand now matters more than avoiding a broken arm.

Cash reaches Levi after the accident

Levi slowly regains consciousness after the accident, but he remains trapped and in considerable pain. Mali helps Cash abseil down to reach him, allowing Cash to stay alongside his friend while Mali attempts to find a way of getting outside help.

After the remaining supplies are lowered down, Mali heads off in search of phone reception. His efforts become increasingly urgent as he struggles to find a signal and watches his phone battery continue to fall.

That leaves Cash effectively alone with Levi as his condition worsens. There is no guarantee of when rescuers will arrive, meaning the pair have to consider what they can do themselves before the situation becomes even more serious.

Levi realises his hand is deteriorating

Cash tries repeatedly to shift the boulder, but its weight makes freeing Levi far from straightforward. Unable to see the hand trapped beneath it, Levi relies on Cash to tell him what is happening.

What Cash sees is deeply concerning. Levi’s fingers have become swollen and are beginning to turn blue, immediately signalling to Levi that they cannot afford to simply remain where they are indefinitely.

Levi’s medical experience means he understands the potential seriousness of his situation. His response is not to ask Cash to wait, but to tell him that the boulder needs to be rolled away regardless of the consequences.

Levi gives Cash a horrifying instruction

Levi tells Cash to move the rock even if doing so breaks his arm. It puts Cash in the extraordinary position of potentially causing a serious injury to his friend in an attempt to prevent the situation from becoming worse.

For Cash, there is no easy outcome. He knows Levi is making the request with an understanding of the medical risks, but that does not make physically carrying it out any less distressing.

The decision also carries enormous personal stakes for Levi. His career as a surgeon depends heavily on the use of his hands, meaning the deterioration Cash is witnessing could have consequences reaching well beyond their immediate struggle to escape.

Can Cash make the decision Levi needs him to make?

Cash has already done everything he can to reach Levi and keep him going, while Mali continues the desperate search for help. Now Levi is asking him to trust his judgement and take an action that could leave him badly injured.

There is also no certainty about how Levi’s arm will react once the enormous weight is moved. What is clear from the situation is that Levi believes remaining trapped is no longer an acceptable option.

Back in Summer Bay, Mackenzie, Eden and Abigail are beginning to wonder why they have heard nothing from the men. They remain unaware of the brutal choice Cash is facing, or that Levi is prepared to risk a broken arm in the hope of protecting his trapped hand.

For Cash, the rescue has therefore become far more than finding a way to move a rock. He must act under enormous pressure while knowing that whatever happens next could have lasting consequences for one of his closest friends.
