Home and Away Amelia gives David space after first kiss disaster

Amelia finally gets an explanation for David’s shocking reaction to their first kiss in Home and Away, but the answer reveals a much deeper obstacle than simple nerves. David admits that his feelings for his late wife are still making it difficult to accept the possibility of loving someone new.

After walking away from Amelia without explanation, David spends the following day avoiding anything that reminds him of the date. He becomes uncomfortable even looking towards the Salt balcony where they kissed and changes his plans rather than confront the memory.

He eventually runs into Amelia at the Diner and asks to speak privately. David apologises for leaving so abruptly and admits that the intimacy triggered guilt about moving forward after losing his wife.

Amelia handles the confession without anger. She tells David she will not pressure him into anything and makes clear that the next move has to come from him when he genuinely feels ready.

Her response gives David exactly what he needs: space without rejection. Amelia does not pretend the awkward ending did not happen, though, and lightly reminds him that the kiss had been enjoyable right up until the moment he ran away.

Justin later becomes the person David confides in about the conflict. David admits that dating Amelia feels uncomfortably close to being unfaithful to his wife, even though she has died.

Justin challenges that thinking by asking whether David could live comfortably with never even attempting to move on. It is a difficult question because avoiding Amelia may protect David from guilt, but it could also prevent him from finding happiness again.

Amelia has already made her position clear. She wants David, but she is prepared to step back rather than become another source of pressure while he works through his grief.

The relationship therefore remains very much alive, even after the disastrous ending to their first kiss. Whether it moves forward now depends on David accepting that opening his heart again does not mean forgetting the woman he lost.
