Home and Away: Alf Spots Sonny Acting Strangely as His Secret Deepens

Sonny’s involvement with Beau begins to attract unwanted attention when Alf notices something unusual about his behaviour. The moment comes at the worst possible time for Sonny, who has only just become engaged to Dana and should be celebrating their future together.

Alf has no idea that Sonny is secretly supplying drugs for Beau, but his observation raises the stakes around a secret that is becoming increasingly difficult for Sonny to keep separate from the rest of his life. With Dana completely unaware of what her new fiancé is doing, even a seemingly small moment of suspicion could become important.

Sonny should be celebrating with Dana

Sonny’s day begins with a major breakthrough in his relationship after the confusion surrounding Dana’s original proposal attempt. Once Sonny understands what she had been planning, he explains that he would have turned up if he had known and, crucially, would have said yes.

Dana takes another chance and proposes again, with Sonny accepting this time. The pair then head to Salt, where John, Mackenzie, Eden and Abigail join them to celebrate their engagement.

It should be an uncomplicated moment of happiness for the couple. Instead, Sonny’s connection to Beau follows him straight into the celebrations.

Beau’s client puts Sonny under pressure

One of Beau’s clients contacts Sonny looking for drugs, forcing him to deal with the situation while surrounded by Dana and their friends. Sonny reluctantly leaves the celebration to complete the transaction rather than refusing the request.

Dana remains unaware of the real reason for Sonny’s departure. She has just committed to marrying him, while Sonny is already concealing something that could have serious consequences for the future they are planning.

The situation also demonstrates how difficult it may become for Sonny to control his involvement. Beau does not even need to be physically present for the drug operation to intrude on Sonny’s relationship, because his clients can now contact Sonny directly.

Alf notices Sonny’s behaviour

Sonny’s attempt to quietly slip away does not pass completely unnoticed. Alf spots that he is behaving unusually, although nothing in the events establishes that Alf knows about the drugs or understands what Sonny is really doing.

That distinction matters, but so does the fact that Sonny has attracted attention at all. If he is going to continue hiding his activities from Dana and the rest of Summer Bay, unexplained disappearances and changes in his behaviour could become increasingly difficult to explain.

For now, Alf has simply noticed something is off. Sonny therefore still has the opportunity to step away from Beau before curiosity turns into questions, but his decision to complete the transaction suggests getting out may not be straightforward.

Could Sonny’s secret begin to unravel?

The biggest threat to Sonny may eventually be the number of people around him rather than one dramatic discovery. Dana knows him intimately, John has become closely involved in their engagement, and friends including Eden, Mackenzie and Abigail are sharing in their celebrations.

Alf noticing Sonny is the first indication in these scenes that his behaviour is visible to somebody outside the drug operation. It does not mean Alf is about to expose him, but it gives Sonny another reason to realise how precarious his position has become.

There is also much more at stake now that Dana has proposed. Sonny is no longer only risking trouble for himself, because any fallout from his involvement with Beau could hit the relationship at precisely the point when Dana believes they have made their biggest commitment yet.

Sonny has managed to keep the truth from Dana for now, but Alf’s observation offers a warning that secrets leave traces. If Sonny continues dealing with Beau’s clients, someone in Summer Bay may eventually start asking the questions he desperately does not want to answer.
