Hollyoaks is continuing its murder mystery following the death of Rex, who was shot at the village garage in recent scenes. The identity of the person responsible remains concealed, leaving a major question hanging over the village.
A gun was pointed at Rex before a shot was fired, but the person holding the weapon was not shown. Darren later arrived at the garage and discovered Rex’s body lying on the floor.
News of Rex’s death left Ste devastated as he struggled to process the loss of his partner. His visible distress showed the immediate impact of the killing, but it may not prevent questions being raised about his connection to the case.
Donny warns Ste that he could become a prime suspect in the murder investigation. No evidence has been revealed linking Ste directly to the shooting, although the warning places him under further pressure while he is grieving.
The programme has not yet confirmed who killed Rex or why he was targeted. Details surrounding the shooting remain limited, while the person responsible has managed to keep their identity hidden.
Discussion online among viewers has already produced a long list of possible suspects, with Imran, James, Clare and Dave among the names being suggested most frequently. These remain unconfirmed theories, but each possibility has prompted debate about whether the character could have had a reason to target Rex.
One theory points towards Imran, with some viewers questioning his recent behaviour and the mystery surrounding his money. Others have strongly rejected the suggestion, arguing that turning him into Rex’s killer would feel out of character.
James has also been named because Rex’s death removes an obstacle between him and Ste. However, some viewers believe Rex’s behaviour before the shooting does not support that theory and have questioned whether James would carry out such a calculated killing.
Clare has been suggested because of her previous history with Rex, while Dave has been mentioned due to his past connections and the possibility that his story may not be over. Abigail, Lucas, Sully, Gemma, Jonah, Prince, Darren and Ro have also appeared in the wider discussion, although several of those suggestions have been described as less likely.
Ste himself has not escaped suspicion among viewers, despite the trauma he displayed after learning that Rex was dead. Some believe his reaction makes his involvement difficult to accept, while others think the programme may be deliberately directing attention away from him.
