Frank Skinner has filmed a new BBC comedy pilot featuring Sara Pascoe, Jamali Maddix, Dan Tiernan and Bella Hull, with the comedians relying on spontaneous audience conversations rather than a traditional scripted format.

The programme, titled Crowd Work, is being developed for BBC Two and could become a new television vehicle for Skinner if the pilot is commissioned as a full series.

A Comedy Show Built Around the Audience

The format takes its inspiration from crowd work, a style of stand-up where comedians interact with audience members and create material from their responses.

Instead of delivering an entirely prepared routine, performers must react to unexpected answers, personal stories and whatever happens in the room.

Two performances were recorded at London's Leicester Square Theatre earlier in October, with Skinner joined by Pascoe, Maddix, Tiernan and Hull.

The combination brings together comedians with different performance styles, from established television names to performers who have developed strong followings through live stand-up.

Skinner has considerable experience with audience-led comedy, having spent decades performing stand-up alongside presenting programmes including The Frank Skinner Show, Room 101 and Fantasy Football League.

The pilot also arrives at a time when clips of comedians interacting with audiences have become popular across social media, often reaching viewers who have never attended a live stand-up performance.

Will Crowd Work Become a Full Series?

Crowd Work has been filmed as a BBC Two pilot rather than commissioned as a full television series. The BBC has not announced a transmission date or confirmed whether the format will return for additional episodes.
