Emmerdale’s Caleb discovers the truth after betraying Ruby
Caleb discovers Ruby did not sleep with Ross in Emmerdale, leaving him facing the consequences of believing Sadie’s carefully constructed lies.
Coming up on Emmerdale, Caleb confronts Ruby expecting an explanation for her supposed betrayal. Instead, he discovers that the marriage he believed she had damaged is the one he has betrayed himself.
Caleb and Ruby have faced repeated threats to their relationship, but Sadie’s arrival introduces someone deliberately working to separate them. Joe has recruited her as part of his campaign against the couple, giving her interference a purpose neither of them fully understands.
Sadie has been telling Caleb one version of events while encouraging Ruby to believe another. Her apparent friendship with his wife gives her access to both sides of their disagreements.
The latest deception centres on Ross, whose interaction with Ruby is arranged to look far more intimate than it is. Caleb sees his drunken wife collapse against him, while Sadie later claims that Ruby left the pub with Ross.
Convinced that his wife has been unfaithful, Caleb decides their marriage is finished. He then sleeps with Sadie, allowing the person who created his suspicions to become the one he turns to.
The truth becomes unavoidable when Caleb questions Ruby afterwards. She did not spend the night with Ross, leaving Caleb shaken as he realises what he has done on the strength of Sadie’s claim.
Ruby is furious when she learns how her supposed friend encouraged the misunderstanding. However, she still does not know that Caleb has already taken his own relationship with Sadie further.
Caleb tells Sadie to move out once they are alone, but removing her from the house cannot remove his responsibility. Ruby is challenging the lie that hurt her marriage while remaining unaware of the betrayal her husband is concealing.
