EuroGames Cardiff 2027 Ambassadors: Jess Fishlock, Sarah Jones and Huw Ware

Three leading figures from Welsh sport are helping champion EuroGames Cardiff 2027 as the event prepares to come to the United Kingdom for the first time.

Football legend Jess Fishlock, Olympic hockey medallist Sarah Jones and professional darts referee Huw Ware have all been confirmed as official ambassadors. The Games will take place in Cardiff from 14 to 17 July 2027, with registration now open across a programme of 38 sports.

Sarah Jones became the first EuroGames Cardiff 2027 ambassador

Sarah was revealed as the first official ambassador when the countdown reached 600 days to EuroGames Cardiff 2027. At the time of the announcement, organisers highlighted her extensive international hockey career, two Olympic appearances and bronze medal with Great Britain at Tokyo 2020.

Since her appointment, Sarah has reached another major career milestone. In March 2026, she recorded her 200th combined international appearance, comprising 127 caps for Wales and 73 for Great Britain.

Sarah said when the EuroGames role was announced that she was excited to be involved in an event connecting her country, home town and community. Away from the pitch, she is now Head of Talent at British Fencing, which also lists her EuroGames 2027 ambassador role among her current sporting work.

Jess Fishlock brings one of Wales’s biggest sporting names

Jess joined the EuroGames Cardiff 2027 ambassador team on 1 March 2026 as part of the event’s St David’s Day celebrations.

Her Wales career ended in October 2025 after a record 166 senior appearances and 48 goals. Alongside her achievements on the pitch, Jess has also been a prominent LGBTQ+ voice within football, making her involvement particularly relevant to an event built around inclusive sport and visibility.

When announcing her appointment, EuroGames Cardiff described Jess as a Welsh sporting icon and highlighted her contribution to making sport more visible and welcoming. She joins the team as Cardiff prepares to host football alongside dozens of other competitions during the Games.

Huw Ware represents darts at Cardiff 2027

Professional darts referee Huw Ware became the third official ambassador on 28 May 2026, joining Sarah and Jess in representing the Games.

Huw has worked with the Professional Darts Corporation for around a decade and serves as an LGBTQ+ ambassador for the organisation. In 2025, he became the first openly gay man to referee a PDC World Darts Championship final.

Writing about his EuroGames appointment in a first person column for Sports Media LGBT+, Huw called becoming an ambassador for the first UK edition “one of the greatest honours of my life.”

Cardiff has personal significance for Huw too. He moved to the city at 19 and has spoken about how its LGBTQ+ community helped give him the confidence to eventually come out within professional darts.

Darts will be part of the EuroGames Cardiff 2027 sporting programme, with Huw encouraging both experienced players and complete beginners to consider entering. The competition is being organised by Out on the Oche, the LGBTQ+ darts group supported by the PDC.

Three sporting voices for a historic EuroGames

Sarah, Jess and Huw bring experience from hockey, football and darts to an event that will put LGBTQ+ inclusive sport firmly in the spotlight in Wales.

Their involvement also gives Cardiff 2027 three recognisable sporting voices who can introduce EuroGames to new audiences while encouraging people to compete, volunteer, attend and follow the Games.
