ITV has released a striking new Emmerdale trailer ahead of Dawn and Joe Tate’s wedding, but the haunting footage suggests their journey to the altar could end in tragedy. Olivia Bromley and Ned Porteous take centre stage in the conceptual promo, which places the couple’s troubled relationship beneath an increasingly dark shadow.

The candlelit trailer shows Dawn dressed for her wedding and staring into an ornate mirror. However, she is not alone in the reflection, as both Joe and Billy Fletcher appear behind her in formal suits, visually capturing the emotional conflict that continues to surround the bride.

Dawn and Joe’s wedding has already been placed under enormous pressure following her secret kiss with former partner Billy. Joe later discovered what had happened, while Billy was subsequently found badly injured and lying beside a large amount of blood.

Billy remains in a coma following the attack, with suspicion falling heavily upon Joe. Although Joe was arrested, he has since been released from police custody and continues to maintain his innocence as Dawn attempts to stand by the man she plans to marry.

Dawn is now trapped between her future with Joe and her unresolved connection to Billy. Her hope that Billy can identify his attacker could provide the answers she desperately needs, but it could also expose a truth capable of destroying her wedding plans.

Doctors are preparing to bring Billy out of his coma, leaving those closest to him waiting to discover what he remembers. Joe’s controlled and difficult to read response has only added to the questions surrounding the attack, particularly as Billy could potentially name the person responsible.

The trailer’s mirror imagery appears to place Billy directly between Dawn and Joe, even as the couple prepare to exchange their vows. Rather than presenting the wedding as a straightforward celebration, the promo focuses on the secrets, divided loyalties and unanswered questions threatening to follow Dawn down the aisle.

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw has confirmed that the wedding will lead to a major turning point for the village. She said: “The run up to Dawn and Joe’s wedding will be far from straightforward but the week of the wedding is even more dramatic! The day will end in tragedy with the consequences having ramifications that will impact the villagers’ lives for years to come.”

The warning that the day will end in tragedy raises serious questions about whether Dawn and Joe will actually become husband and wife. It also suggests the consequences will reach much further than the central couple, with Billy’s attack and the mystery surrounding his assailant likely to remain closely connected to the wedding.

Joe may currently appear to be the most obvious suspect, but that does not necessarily mean he attacked Billy. The longer Billy remains unable to explain what happened, the more uncertainty surrounds the case and the people who may have had their own reasons for wanting him silenced.

Dawn’s decision could ultimately depend on what Billy says when he regains consciousness. Whether she continues towards the altar, confronts Joe or begins questioning her own feelings, the new trailer promises a dramatic and emotionally charged wedding story.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and STV, with episodes available from 7am on ITVX, STV Player and YouTube.
