Emmerdale has said goodbye to Jack Downham after 17 years playing Noah Dingle on the ITV soap. Jack took over the role in 2009 and has spent much of his life on the show, growing up alongside his character and becoming a familiar member of the Dingle family.

Noah has been involved in some major storylines over the years, including his disturbing obsession with Chloe Harris, which escalated into stalking and ultimately resulted in a prison sentence. Earlier, he had also attempted to pursue a future in the Army, using a urine sample provided by Samson after worrying that his own medical history would prevent him from passing the required tests.

Viewers later saw a very different side to Noah through his relationship with Amelia Spencer, as he supported her following Esther’s birth and attempted to provide financially for the youngster. That storyline also brought further problems with Samson, who blackmailed Noah after discovering his plans to set up money for Esther.

More recently, Noah became caught up in Joe Tate’s secret search for a kidney donor, with his half brother having him drugged and tested to discover whether he could be a match. Noah survived another difficult chapter before his final storyline eventually offered him the opportunity of a completely new beginning away from Emmerdale.

His exit saw Noah accept a job in Düsseldorf, with Charity ultimately encouraging her son to take the opportunity rather than remain in the village because of her. It provided a fitting way for Noah to move forward while also leaving the possibility of the character returning to the Dales someday.
