Emmerdale puts its leading women at the heart of explosive summer as six huge stories collide

Emmerdale is entering one of its biggest periods of the year, and it's the show's leading women who are driving almost every major storyline set to unfold across the village.

From long awaited returns and dangerous secrets to impossible choices and life changing discoveries, the ITV soap is placing its female characters firmly at the centre of the action as summer continues.

Fresh preview material has confirmed that Sadie King, Charity Dingle, Sarah Sugden, Serena, Gabby Thomas and Dawn Fletcher are all set to play key roles in the weeks ahead, with each woman facing a very different battle.

At the centre of the drama is the return of Sadie King. After weeks of anticipation surrounding Patsy Kensit's comeback, the character is finally set to make her presence felt as she arrives back in the village carrying a major secret.

Her return is expected to have consequences across several families, with the soap teasing that her arrival forms part of a much bigger storyline that will continue unfolding over the coming weeks.

Alongside Sadie's comeback, Charity's world continues to become increasingly complicated following the terrifying ordeal involving Dr Caitlin Todd. Although she has been doing everything possible to protect her family, another unexpected situation soon threatens everything she has fought to keep hidden.

Sarah also finds herself facing one of the biggest emotional journeys of her life as the truth about baby Leyla's parentage edges closer to coming out. As the pressure builds, the revelation has the potential to change relationships across the village and leave Sarah struggling to cope with the fallout.

Newcomer Serena is another character taking centre stage. After arriving with a hidden agenda, she begins taking greater risks as she desperately tries to keep her secret buried. However, with Kim King growing increasingly suspicious, Serena soon realises keeping control of the situation may be becoming impossible.

Gabby's story also takes a darker turn as her ongoing health concerns continue to affect her judgement. Determined to stay in control, she becomes increasingly consumed by a dangerous obsession that threatens both her wellbeing and those closest to her.

Meanwhile, Dawn Fletcher is preparing for what should be one of the happiest days of her life as she plans to marry Joe Tate. However, lingering feelings from her past and the dramatic events surrounding Billy Fletcher leave major questions hanging over whether her future is really as settled as she hopes.

Taken individually, each storyline carries huge consequences. Together, they create one of the most female led periods Emmerdale has explored in recent years, with six very different women all facing defining moments at the same time.
