EastEnders star John Partridge takes on iconic Hannibal Lecter role in The Silence of the Lambs

EastEnders favourite John Partridge is taking on one of the most famous roles in psychological thriller history as he steps into the part of Dr Hannibal Lecter in the world stage play premiere of The Silence of the Lambs.

John, who remains well known to soap viewers for playing Christian Clarke in EastEnders, leads the new production alongside Coronation Street star Mollie Gallagher and Emmerdale actor Oliver Farnworth as the acclaimed Thomas Harris story is brought to the stage for the first time.

The role marks another major theatre chapter for John, whose career has long combined television with extensive West End and stage work.

John Partridge becomes Hannibal Lecter

In The Silence of the Lambs, John plays the refined, intelligent and deeply dangerous psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter, whose insight becomes central to an FBI investigation into serial killer Buffalo Bill.

FBI trainee Clarice Starling is sent to interview Lecter in the hope that his understanding of criminal behaviour can help investigators track down the killer before another victim dies.

However, Lecter soon turns the focus back onto Clarice, drawing her into an increasingly complex psychological battle as he begins probing into her own life and fears.

The role gives John the chance to take on a character very different from Christian, while also drawing heavily on the stage experience he has built throughout his career.

From Christian Clarke to an extensive West End career

John became a hugely familiar face to EastEnders viewers through his long-running role as Christian Clarke, a character who became central to several major Walford storylines.

Away from Albert Square, John has established an extensive theatre career and has appeared in major productions including Cats and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

He has worked across acting, singing, presenting, writing and directing, making him one of the most experienced performers in the cast of the new production.

That background makes his casting as Hannibal Lecter particularly significant, with the role requiring both a commanding stage presence and the ability to maintain the character’s unsettling psychological control throughout his encounters with Clarice.

Mollie Gallagher and Oliver Farnworth join John Partridge

John stars opposite Mollie Gallagher, best known as Nina Lucas in Coronation Street, who takes on the role of Clarice Starling.

The production marks Mollie’s professional theatre debut following more than six years on Coronation Street, making the role a major new step in her career.

Emmerdale star Oliver Farnworth, currently known to viewers as John Sugden, plays FBI agent Jack Crawford. Oliver also previously appeared in Coronation Street as Andy Carver and brings extensive theatre experience of his own to the production.

Sam Jackson, known for Skins and Father Brown, takes on the role of Jame Gumb, better known as Buffalo Bill, while Minal Patel plays Frederick Chilton and Jo Mousley appears as Senator Ruth Martin.

The wider company includes Lottie Amor as Catherine Martin, Mark Peachey as Pilcher, Andrew Joshi as Peterson and Jonny Magnanti as Wertimer, with Mary Timbrell Hill completing the cast and taking on a variety of roles.

Together, the company brings together a wide range of television and theatre experience for the first stage adaptation of Thomas Harris’s celebrated story.

The Silence of the Lambs makes its world stage premiere

The new production has been adapted by two-time Pulitzer finalist Gina Gionfriddo and is directed by Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster.

The creative team includes designer Michael Taylor, sound designer Carolyn Downing, projection designer George Reeve, composer Grant Olding and lighting designer Howard Hudson, with casting by Harry Blumenau and Julia Thomas serving as Associate Director.

The Silence of the Lambs opened at Curve in Leicester on 1 August 2026 before continuing on its major UK and Ireland tour.
