EastEnders Denise Says She Wants to Stop Cancer Treatment as Family Faces New Crisis

Denise is facing a heartbreaking decision in EastEnders, with the soap's new winter trailer revealing that she wants to stop her cancer treatment after months of uncertainty over her future.

The footage, released on Thursday 29 October 2026, shows Denise, played by Diane Parish, telling her shocked family that she no longer wants to continue treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia.

However, viewers have already seen Denise privately consider that possibility, making the latest development particularly concerning.

Denise Has Already Considered Stopping Treatment

Denise was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in May before undergoing intensive chemotherapy, which failed to produce the results doctors had hoped for.

She was subsequently told she needed a stem cell transplant, prompting a search for a suitable donor that brought her half-brother Darnell into her life.

Unfortunately, Darnell was confirmed not to be a match on 28 September, leaving Denise devastated and questioning whether she could face further treatment.

During the same episode, she asked her AI assistant, Iggy, what would happen to her body if she stopped treatment, revealing just how seriously she was considering the possibility. The winter trailer now suggests Denise is ready to share those feelings with her family, telling them: "I told them I want to stop."

Amy's Disappearance Adds to Family Pressures

Denise has also faced further worries following Amy's disappearance with Craig, which Jack initially concealed because he feared the additional stress could affect her health.

Darnell eventually revealed the truth, while Ash expressed concern about the pressure Denise was already experiencing.

During this weeks episodes, Sean suggests that Denise record a video appealing for Amy to return home, keeping her involved in the family's search despite her illness.

What Happens Next for Denise?

Denise's decision will be particularly difficult for Chelsea and Kim, who have supported her through months of treatment and the disappointment of discovering Darnell was not a suitable donor. The winter trailer shows their shock as Denise reveals how she feels, but whether her family can persuade her to reconsider has not been confirmed.

The footage also offers a more hopeful moment, with Amy shown safely reunited with Denise following her disappearance. However, the BBC has not revealed when Denise's treatment decision takes place or whether she ultimately decides to continue receiving medical care.

EastEnders has worked closely with Blood Cancer UK throughout the storyline to reflect the experiences of people living with blood cancer and the difficult decisions facing their families.

The wider winter trailer includes Janine's return and further developments across Walford.
