EastEnders Kat shuts Alfie out as Zoe grief deepens
EastEnders sees Kat struggle badly with Zoe’s death as drinking, a painful breakdown and her refusal to open up leave Alfie increasingly worried.
Kat’s grief over Zoe reaches another painful stage in EastEnders as she continues struggling to cope with the loss of her daughter. Rather than allowing Alfie to support her, Kat increasingly shuts him out and attempts to deal with what she is feeling alone.
The atmosphere at The Vic becomes increasingly difficult as Kat’s grief continues to dominate her life. She turns to drink as she tries to cope, while Alfie becomes more concerned by how badly she appears to be struggling.

Alfie desperately wants Kat to let him in, but she refuses to open up about what she is going through.
The emotional distance between them continues to grow, despite everything the couple have already survived together.

Kat eventually reaches breaking point and breaks down as the weight of Zoe’s death becomes too much.
Her pain has been building since losing her daughter, and her attempts to carry on without properly confronting that grief are clearly becoming harder to maintain.

The situation also puts further pressure on Kat and Alfie’s relationship.
Alfie can see that his wife is suffering, but his efforts to support her leave him frustrated when Kat repeatedly pushes him away.

Zoe’s death has devastated the wider family, but Kat’s grief remains particularly raw as she tries to make sense of losing her daughter.
The coming scenes put that pain at the centre of the story as Kat’s determination to deal with it alone leaves Alfie increasingly frightened for her.

Whether Kat can finally allow Alfie to help remains uncertain, but her latest breakdown makes clear that she cannot continue burying everything she is feeling.
