EastEnders Jack Branning confronts Darnell as Denise faces another donor setback
Jack confronts Darnell over donor testing in EastEnders, but Denise accepts his decision after he explains why he is frightened to come forward.
Jack demands answers from Darnell in upcoming EastEnders scenes after learning that a potential donor has still not come forward for testing. However, Denise responds differently when Darnell explains the fears behind his hesitation.
The conversation begins when Denise tells Jack that the testing has not happened. Frustrated by the lack of progress, he becomes convinced that Darnell is the person involved and decides to confront him directly.
Jack’s approach puts Darnell under pressure to explain himself, rather than allowing the uncertainty to continue. He wants to know what is holding things up, with the possibility of a match giving the conversation considerable weight.
Darnell admits that he has learned he could be a potential match. He also talks about his fears, giving Jack an explanation for why he has not taken the next step towards testing.
For Denise, hearing those concerns leads to acceptance of Darnell’s decision. Although the possibility of a donor directly concerns her, she does not respond by joining Jack in demanding that he proceed.
Jack remains dissatisfied, creating a disagreement over how to respond to the same information. Denise is prepared to accept what Darnell has told them, while Jack finds it harder to leave the matter there.
That difference puts Denise’s own response at the centre of the encounter. Jack wants movement on testing, but she is also listening to the person being asked to come forward and taking his concerns seriously.
The uncertainty is being felt elsewhere in the family, with Amy already opening up about her fears for Denise. During a meeting with Craig, she discusses those worries alongside Roxy’s death, showing how the current situation sits beside an earlier loss.
Amy’s conversation becomes upsetting when Craig notices her scars and she runs off. She is subsequently drawn closer to him and brushes off Denzel, while the adults continue trying to navigate the questions surrounding Denise’s potential donor.
Denise has also been offering support beyond her own situation, approaching Kat after speaking with Alfie about her grief for Zoe. Now, faced with Darnell’s explanation, she again makes space for someone else’s distress, accepting his decision even as Jack continues to object.
