EastEnders’ Elaine gets the wrong idea when Ian comes calling

Coming up on EastEnders, Ian approaches Elaine hoping to solve a problem with his community event. Their existing attraction makes the conversation far less straightforward than a request to borrow fireworks should be.

The pair have already shared a fling, although their connection has not developed into a clearly defined relationship. Nancy’s discovery of what happened between them has also brought their private lives to someone else’s attention.

For Ian, the bonfire event offers an opportunity to become more involved in Walford life after a difficult return from prison. Ned has been encouraging him, and the plans give him something practical to concentrate on.

Ned also helps Ryder obtain work with Ian. However, the preparations encounter a setback when the fireworks Ryder has supplied turn out to be out of date and unusable.

Needing a replacement, Ian approaches Elaine about borrowing some of hers. She misunderstands the request and assumes that he is asking her on a date.

The confusion leaves Elaine embarrassed, prompting her to refuse rather than explain what she thought he meant. Ian is left without the supplies he wanted, while their previous involvement makes the exchange more awkward.

Ryder and Oscar then decide to steal Elaine’s fireworks, creating another problem between the adults. When Ian and Elaine argue, their irritation does not remain an ordinary disagreement about the event.

Ian interrupts her with a kiss, bringing their attraction back into the open. Their earlier fling has already complicated a simple request for help, and the latest encounter gives them another reason to consider what they want from one another.
