EastEnders' Denise's instincts prove impossible to ignore over Sheila
Denise cannot shake her suspicions about Sheila as her concerns grow despite Chelsea believing she has found a trusted ally.
Denise has always trusted her instincts, and in upcoming EastEnders scenes those instincts tell her that something about Sheila simply does not add up. While those around her are beginning to lower their guard, Denise remains convinced there is a reason to stay cautious.
Her concerns come at an incredibly difficult time. As Denise continues treatment for leukaemia, she would much rather be concentrating on her recovery than worrying about another family crisis. However, the more she watches Sheila interact with Chelsea and Jordan, the more convinced she becomes that her fears are justified.
Chelsea cannot see what Denise sees. From her point of view, Sheila has stepped in when the family has needed support the most. She has offered help without asking for anything in return and has gradually become someone Chelsea feels she can depend on.
Denise believes there is another side to the story. She notices how carefully Sheila has earned Chelsea's trust, never pushing too hard but slowly becoming part of the family's daily life. That gradual approach leaves Denise wondering whether every move has been carefully planned.
The biggest source of concern is Jordan. Denise becomes increasingly uncomfortable as Sheila spends more time looking after him, believing the situation has developed far more quickly than it should have. Although Chelsea feels comfortable with the arrangement, Denise cannot shake the feeling that important boundaries are beginning to disappear.
Her worries intensify when Sheila encourages Jordan to keep a secret. For Denise, that crosses a line. She believes children should never feel they have to hide things from the adults who love and care for them, and the incident only strengthens her suspicions.
Unfortunately, Denise struggles to convince Chelsea that there is a genuine reason for concern. Every conversation between them seems to end in frustration, with Chelsea accusing her mother of being unfair while Denise feels she is simply trying to protect her family.
Their disagreement continues placing strain on a relationship that has already been tested by Denise's illness. Rather than pulling together during such a difficult period, mother and daughter find themselves growing further apart as they reach completely different conclusions about Sheila.
Patrick's return offers Denise some welcome comfort. Having her father back by her side reminds her that she is not facing these challenges alone, and Patrick does his best to listen to her concerns without immediately dismissing them.
Even so, Patrick also recognises how complicated the situation has become. He can see why Chelsea believes Sheila has been supportive, but he also understands why Denise is finding it impossible to ignore the warning signs she believes are right in front of her.
As Sheila continues strengthening her place within the family, Denise faces an increasingly lonely battle to convince those closest to her that her concerns should not be dismissed. Whether her instincts are right or wrong, one thing is becoming clear. The disagreement is driving a deeper wedge between Denise and Chelsea at a time when they need each other more than ever.
