Ryanair Changes Airport Bag Drop Rules From 10 November – What UK Passengers Need to Know
Ryanair passengers travelling with checked luggage will need to arrive at airport bag drop earlier from Tuesday 10 November 2026, when the airline introduces a stricter deadline across its entire network.
The change means bag drop and airport check-in desks will close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, rather than the current 40 minutes.
Anyone flying from the UK or returning from a European destination with hold luggage will need to allow an additional 20 minutes to complete the process.

What Is Ryanair's New 60-Minute Rule?
Under the revised policy, passengers must complete airport check-in and hand over their checked luggage at least one hour before their flight is scheduled to depart.
For example, someone catching an 8.30am flight will need to have dropped off their luggage by 7.30am. Under the previous rules, they had until 7.50am, meaning anyone following their usual airport routine could now miss the deadline.
The airline originally announced the change in April and issued a further reminder on 27 October as the November introduction approaches.
Ryanair says the earlier closure is intended to give passengers more opportunity to clear airport security and passport control before boarding, particularly during busy periods.
Does the Change Affect Hand Luggage?
Passengers travelling with cabin bags only will not be affected by the new bag drop deadline, provided they have checked in online and have their boarding pass ready.
Ryanair estimates that around 20% of its customers check in luggage, meaning most passengers will continue using the existing online check-in process.
However, those who need to check in at an airport desk must also meet the new 60-minute deadline, even if they are not checking in a suitcase.
What Happens If You Arrive Too Late?
Missing the new deadline could mean passengers are unable to check in their luggage or board their flight. Ryanair's conditions of carriage state that customers who fail to complete airport check-in by the required deadline may be refused boarding without a refund.
The airline recommends arriving at the airport at least two hours before departure, allowing sufficient opportunity to complete check-in, drop off luggage and pass through security.

Online check-in remains available through the Ryanair website and app until two hours before departure. Passengers who fail to check in online may also face an airport check-in fee.
When Do the New Ryanair Rules Start?
The revised deadline applies to Ryanair flights departing from Tuesday 10 November 2026, including services from UK airports and flights returning from destinations across Europe.
Travellers with upcoming bookings should check their departure details before heading to the airport, particularly if they are taking a short break or travelling during the busy winter holiday period.
