Dracula Meets Saturday Night Fever in Bristol Old Vic's New Vampire Musical

Dracula is trading his gothic castle for a disco in a new musical comedy that combines vampires, original dance music and horror-inspired chaos. Disco Dracula will receive its world premiere at Bristol Old Vic in 2027, offering a very different take on one of fiction's most recognisable monsters.

The story follows John and Mina, a couple hoping to enjoy an ordinary night out despite problems in their relationship. Their evening takes a disastrous turn when they find themselves drawn into a vampire disco, where Dracula and his Brides are holding auditions for eternity.

Suddenly, the couple have more to worry about than their romantic difficulties, as they face a night of supernatural danger, dance-floor madness and possible fangs.

A vampire story with a disco soundtrack

The musical promises original disco music, jump scares, comedy and audience participation, mixing the horror of Dracula with the high-energy atmosphere of a night out. Bristol Old Vic has compared the production's style to The Rocky Horror Show and Saturday Night Fever, offering a flavour of its deliberately camp approach.

The creative team includes Robyn Grant as director, with Charlie O'Connor and Alena Henke writing the book and lyrics. Grant previously worked on Unfortunate, the irreverent musical comedy inspired by Ursula from The Little Mermaid, making this another production that puts a playful spin on familiar characters.

The show is co-produced by Bristol Old Vic and Disco Dracula Productions and is aimed at audiences aged 16 and over. Its combination of horror, comedy and live music is designed to give the traditional vampire story a distinctly theatrical twist.

When is Disco Dracula on?

Disco Dracula runs at Bristol Old Vic from 27 May to 19 June 2027, with tickets priced from £11. General booking opens at midday on 14 October 2026.
