Deezer Will Let Users Filter AI-Generated Music From Search Results

Deezer is preparing to give listeners more control over AI-generated music, with a new setting that will allow users to exclude fully AI-generated tracks, albums and related artists from search results.

Announced on 13 October, the feature is expected to roll out globally before the end of 2026. Users will be able to switch the filter on or off, meaning those who want to explore AI-generated music will still have the option to include it in their searches.

The move builds on Deezer’s existing efforts to identify fully AI-generated recordings and distinguish them from other music available on its platform.

Millions of AI-generated tracks identified

Deezer says it has detected more than 42 million AI-generated tracks since January 2025. The company has also reported that it receives tens of thousands of fully AI-generated tracks each day, with these recordings accounting for more than half of daily deliveries on some peak days.

These figures relate to Deezer’s own platform and detection efforts, rather than the total amount of AI-generated music available across the entire streaming industry.

The volume of new material presents a challenge for music services trying to help listeners find the artists and recordings they want. AI tools can generate tracks at scale, making transparency and effective music discovery increasingly important.

Deezer has already taken steps to label fully AI-generated recordings and exclude them from algorithmic and editorial recommendations. The planned search filter would give listeners another way to control what appears when they look for music.

Will the filter remove all music made with AI?

No. The planned feature focuses on fully AI-generated music. It should not be confused with recordings made by human musicians who use AI tools during part of the creative process.

That distinction is important because AI can be used in many different ways, from assisting with production to generating an entire track. A filter aimed at fully AI-generated recordings does not automatically identify every use of AI in a song.

The feature is also a choice for listeners, rather than a blanket ban. People who are interested in AI-generated music will still be able to search for it when the setting is switched off.

Deezer has separately raised concerns about fraudulent streaming activity involving some AI-generated tracks. However, the fact that a recording was generated by AI does not, by itself, prove that its streams are fraudulent.

What it means for artists and listeners

For listeners who prefer to discover music created by human artists, the proposed setting could make searches more straightforward. It also gives users a clearer choice about whether fully AI-generated material appears alongside other recordings.

For musicians and songwriters, the change is part of a wider debate about transparency, copyright and the impact of AI on the music business.

The feature is expected to become available globally before the end of 2026. Until the rollout begins, listeners should not assume that the new setting is already available on their accounts.
