Could Penny’s baby secret finally be exposed in EastEnders?
Penny panics in EastEnders when Rose and Jodie say baby Ethan looks nothing like Vinny, putting the unresolved paternity secret back under pressure.
Penny’s attempt to protect her new family faces another uncomfortable test in EastEnders when an innocent comment about baby Ethan leaves her fearing that people are beginning to notice something she desperately wants to keep hidden.
Coming up this week, Rose and Jodie spend time with Penny and her newborn son before making an observation that immediately unsettles her. They remark that Ethan does not appear to look much like Vinny, putting the baby’s appearance firmly under the spotlight.
Why Penny still does not know who Ethan’s father is

The uncertainty goes back to Penny’s relationships with Harry and Vinny before she discovered she was pregnant.
Penny slept with Harry in December 2025 before later getting together with Vinny on New Year’s Eve. When she initially discovered she was expecting, she believed Vinny was the father, but her first scan suggested the pregnancy could be further advanced than she had thought.
The situation became even more complicated when Nicola demanded answers and Penny appeared to produce a DNA result confirming Vinny as the father. However, that result was fake, meaning the question was never actually settled.
Penny’s secret has already started spreading

Penny came close to telling Vinny the truth before Ethan was born, but her waters broke before she could go through with it.
Following the birth, she decided to continue keeping the uncertainty from him. Unfortunately for Penny, Priya subsequently discovered what was happening after overhearing a conversation, meaning the secret was already no longer completely under her control.
With Vinny already exhausted by life with a newborn and Penny defending him when Suki questions their parenting, another family crisis could be the last thing either of them needs.
The biggest unanswered question remains the simplest one. Will Penny finally tell Vinny herself, or will somebody else expose the truth first?
EastEnders airs on BBC One, with episodes also available on BBC iPlayer.
