Could Océane Terrettaz turn her AI stories into a series?
Océane Terrettaz has mostly focused on short, standalone AI stories so far, giving her the freedom to move between different characters, emotions and subjects without having to remain inside one continuing narrative. Now, however, she is beginning to consider what could happen if some of those characters were given more time.
The standalone format has suited the way Océane creates because every new film can start with a completely different idea. One story can explore relationships or loneliness, while the next can move somewhere entirely different without needing to connect with anything that came before it.
“Until now, I’ve mostly created short, standalone stories, and I really enjoy the freedom that gives me to explore different subjects and emotions.”
That freedom remains important, but Océane has recently started thinking about returning to characters she has already created. Bringing someone back would allow her to move beyond the emotional moment captured in one short film and explore what happens to that character afterwards.
It could also mark an interesting change in the way her storytelling develops. Recurring characters create opportunities for relationships and personalities to evolve over time, while audiences have longer to become invested in the people at the centre of the story.
“But recently, I’ve started thinking about bringing certain characters back and exploring their stories a little further.”
Océane is not limiting that possibility to occasional follow-up stories either. She is also open to creating something longer, including the possibility of a continuing AI-generated series in the future.
That does not mean a full series is already in production, and Océane is clear that there is nothing completely planned at this stage. Instead, it is an area she is interested in exploring as both her own storytelling and the technology available to creators continue to develop.
“I’m also open to the idea of creating a longer story or even a series in the future.”
Moving from standalone films into a continuing story would bring different creative challenges. Characters would need to remain visually recognisable across a much larger number of scenes, while their personalities, relationships and individual stories would also need to remain consistent.
Those challenges could make the idea particularly interesting as AI video technology improves. A longer project would give Océane the chance to combine the emotional storytelling already found in her shorter work with characters audiences can return to repeatedly.
“I don’t have anything fully planned yet, but it’s definitely something I’d love to explore.”
For now, the short standalone format remains at the heart of Océane’s work, but the possibility of recurring characters and longer stories offers a glimpse at where her filmmaking could eventually go. If she does take that step, it could turn individual emotional moments into stories with much more room to grow.
