Could Megan return to Coronation Street with a bombshell?

Megan is returning to Coronation Street’s story just months after being sent to prison, and viewers are already trying to work out what could possibly bring her back into Will’s life.

Beth Nixon is reportedly filming new scenes after Megan was sentenced to five years in prison for grooming teenager Will. The former athletics coach had vowed to appeal her conviction, leaving one obvious route for the storyline to continue.

Why is Megan coming back?

Megan is understood to be filming alongside Lucas Hodgson-Wale, who plays Will, with Catherine Tyldesley and Pauline McLynn also involved as Eva and Maggie.

Exactly what happens has not been revealed. It is not yet clear whether Will comes face-to-face with Megan himself, another member of his family visits her or her planned appeal becomes important.

The news has certainly got viewers talking again about Beth Nixon’s performance. Following Megan’s conviction, one fan said Beth had done a “fantastic job” playing the villain and suggested she would have been an excellent permanent addition had Megan been a very different character.

Another viewer agreed that playing somebody genuinely unpleasant was difficult and said Beth had played the role “extremely good.” A third also praised the actress while celebrating Megan finally being found guilty, saying there should be “huge props for her actress” for portraying such an evil character.

Could Megan have another bombshell for Will?

Attention has now turned to why Coronation Street would reopen the storyline so soon after Megan was jailed.

One viewer believes there could be another major development coming, predicting: “I think there is a twist for sure that Megan will drop a bombshell that she's pregnant for real.”

Another fan separately wondered whether Megan could claim Will is the father. Megan’s appeal is another possibility. She made clear following her conviction that she intended to challenge the result, meaning the programme already has an established reason for returning to her story without necessarily releasing her from prison.

What does Megan’s return mean for Will?

The biggest issue is what another encounter with Megan could mean for Will after he finally appeared to have some distance from her.

One viewer noted that “we have barely seen Will since Megan got sent to prison,” which could now make more sense if Coronation Street has been preparing another chapter of his story.

Nothing has yet been confirmed about how Megan returns or whether she will physically leave prison. What does appear clear is that the consequences of her grooming of Will are not finished simply because she was convicted.
