Coronation Street’s Mollie Gallagher takes on huge new role after Nina Lucas exit

Coronation Street star Mollie Gallagher is taking on one of the most famous roles in psychological thriller history as she begins an exciting new chapter away from Weatherfield.

The actress, best known to soap viewers as Nina Lucas, has been cast as FBI trainee Clarice Starling in the world stage play premiere of The Silence of the Lambs, marking Mollie’s professional theatre debut.

It is a major new role for Mollie following more than six years on Coronation Street, where Nina became one of the soap’s most recognisable younger characters and featured at the centre of several powerful storylines.

Mollie Gallagher swaps Nina Lucas for Clarice Starling

Mollie joined Coronation Street in 2019 after leaving drama school and quickly established Nina as an important part of the Weatherfield community.

Among her biggest stories was the devastating hate crime storyline involving Nina and Seb, which explored the consequences of a brutal attack and was inspired by the real-life murder of Sophie Lancaster.

Now Mollie is moving from the cobbles into a dramatically different world as she takes on Clarice Starling, the character famously at the centre of Thomas Harris’s The Silence of the Lambs.

In the story, FBI trainee Clarice is sent to speak to imprisoned psychiatrist and murderer Dr Hannibal Lecter as investigators desperately search for serial killer Buffalo Bill.

Lecter may have the insight needed to help catch him, but his interest soon turns towards Clarice herself. Their increasingly complex psychological battle becomes central to the investigation as another woman remains missing and time begins to run out.

A major first for the Coronation Street star

Although Mollie has spent years working in television, The Silence of the Lambs is her first professional theatre production, making the casting particularly significant.

She previously took on another challenge away from Coronation Street when she competed in Dancing on Ice in 2023, eventually reaching the semi-finals.

The new stage role now gives audiences the chance to see Mollie in a completely different setting, with Clarice demanding a combination of determination, vulnerability and psychological strength as she finds herself drawn into Lecter’s dangerous game.

Familiar soap faces join an impressive cast

The production also brings together several familiar television names alongside an experienced company of theatre performers.

Emmerdale star Oliver Farnworth, currently known to viewers as John Sugden, plays FBI agent Jack Crawford. Oliver also previously appeared in Coronation Street as Andy Carver and has extensive theatre experience alongside his television work.

Former EastEnders star John Partridge, remembered by viewers as Christian Clarke, takes on the iconic role of Hannibal Lecter. John has a substantial West End background, with stage credits ranging from Cats to Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Sam Jackson, known for Skins, plays Jame Gumb, better known as Buffalo Bill, while Minal Patel takes on Frederick Chilton and Jo Mousley plays Senator Ruth Martin.

Lottie Amor appears as Catherine Martin, with Mark Peachey as Pilcher, Andrew Joshi as Peterson and Jonny Magnanti as Wertimer. Mary Timbrell Hill completes the company, with members of the ensemble also taking on a variety of roles throughout the production.

Together, the cast brings a broad mix of television and theatre experience to the first stage adaptation of Thomas Harris’s celebrated story.

The Silence of the Lambs comes to the stage

The production is the first stage play adaptation of Thomas Harris’s landmark story and has been adapted by two-time Pulitzer finalist Gina Gionfriddo, with Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster directing.

The story places the relationship between Clarice and Lecter firmly at its centre as the FBI attempts to track down Buffalo Bill, while Lecter begins probing deeper into Clarice’s own mind.

The award-winning creative team includes designer Michael Taylor, sound designer Carolyn Downing, projection designer George Reeve, composer Grant Olding and lighting designer Howard Hudson, with casting by Harry Blumenau and Julia Thomas serving as Associate Director.

The production opened at Curve in Leicester on 1 August 2026 before heading out on its major UK and Ireland tour. Full tour dates, venues and ticket booking information are available through the official The Silence of the Lambs website.
