Tim and Sally Metcalfe's decision to open their home to Lucy quickly takes a heartbreaking turn in upcoming Coronation Street scenes as the vulnerable teenager vanishes without warning.

After Richie's arrest on suspicion of murdering Rachel, Lucy is left with nowhere to go and is taken into emergency care. Wanting to give her the stability she desperately needs, Tim and Sally agree to become her foster carers despite knowing the emotional challenges that lie ahead.

Before Lucy arrives, DS Lisa Connor Swain visits the couple to explain the circumstances surrounding the case. Lisa keeps Tim and Sally fully informed, ensuring they understand both the seriousness of the investigation and the difficult position Lucy has been placed in following the loss of her parents.

Although Tim and Sally welcome Lucy with open arms, it soon becomes clear that settling into a new family is far from easy. The teenager is overwhelmed by grief and trauma, and despite their best efforts to make her feel safe, she struggles to adjust to her new surroundings.

As the days pass, Lucy begins suffering nightmares and finds it increasingly difficult to cope with everything that has happened. The emotional pressure continues to build until she suddenly disappears, leaving Tim and Sally terrified that something has happened to her.

The disappearance sends the couple into panic as they desperately try to track Lucy down before she comes to any harm. Having only just taken responsibility for her care, Tim feels an overwhelming sense of guilt, while Sally fears the teenager may be trying to deal with her grief completely alone.

The storyline shines a light on the challenges faced by young people dealing with sudden trauma and loss, while also exploring the enormous responsibility placed on foster carers trying to support vulnerable children through unimaginable circumstances.

For Tim and Sally, offering Lucy a home was an act of compassion. As they begin a frantic search to bring her back safely, they realise that helping someone heal from such devastating events may prove far more difficult than either of them expected.
