Coronation Street’s Christina makes a risky move over Richie

Coming up on Coronation Street, Christina decides she needs to meet Richie herself rather than continue hearing about him through other people. Her search for answers about Rachel has become deeply personal, leaving George struggling to persuade her to step back.

Christina’s involvement began with a devastating discovery at the undertakers. While helping with arrangements surrounding Rachel’s death, she realised that the woman who had died was her own daughter.

That revelation also connected Christina to Lucy, Rachel and Richie’s teenage daughter. Lucy has been staying with Tim and Sally while her father remains in prison, meaning Christina’s newly discovered family is already caught in a painful dispute about what happened.

Richie has claimed that Rachel was abusive and that he acted in self-defence. However, Christina has growing reasons to question that account, including material she has seen on Lucy’s phone that changes her understanding of the relationship.

For George, the investigation belongs with the police. He encourages Christina to let them do their work rather than place herself in a confrontation that could cause further distress.

Christina is not ready to leave her questions unanswered, particularly when the person who could respond is still alive and able to speak. She writes to Richie hoping he will agree to a prison visit.

A meeting would give her the chance to assess him directly and ask about the daughter she has only recently discovered she lost. It would not guarantee honest answers, but Christina wants the opportunity to hear his account for herself.

George wants to protect her from further pain, while Christina wants to pursue the truth. Their different responses leave her determined to take a step he would rather she avoided.
