Cassie has spent months trying to keep Ross out of Tyrone's life, convinced he will only bring heartache to her son. Her latest attempt to drive him away, however, proves to be her biggest gamble yet, and it leaves her facing the consequences from every direction.

After targeting Ross with a calculated plan involving pain medication, Cassie believes she has covered her tracks. But one small mistake changes everything, as Steve stumbles across the evidence that exposes exactly what she has been doing.

With Tyrone forced to confront the truth, Cassie's relationships begin to crumble, raising serious questions about whether she can recover from the damage she has caused.

Cassie targets Ross once again

Ross's birthday brings the family together for what should have been a happy celebration, but Cassie has other ideas. Unable to accept Ross becoming part of Tyrone's life, she continues searching for a way to force him out of Weatherfield for good.

The opportunity arrives when Ross explains he needs to take a drugs test for his new job. Seeing Amy prepare him a smoothie in his travel mug, Cassie waits until nobody is watching before secretly slipping pain medication into his drink.

Believing the failed drugs test will destroy Ross's prospects, Cassie is convinced she has found the perfect way to remove him without anybody suspecting her involvement.

Ross's past also comes back into focus

Cassie does not stop there. She also arranges a meeting involving Ross, Tyrone, Steve and Tracy, introducing Alison, who reveals details about her previous relationship with Ross.

The confrontation quickly becomes heated as Ross strongly denies the accusations made against him. Although Cassie hopes the revelations will persuade Tyrone that Ross cannot be trusted, the plan fails to have the impact she expected.

Instead of turning everyone against Ross, the meeting leaves Cassie attracting unwanted attention herself.

Steve uncovers the crucial evidence

While Cassie believes she has escaped suspicion, Steve makes an unexpected discovery that changes the direction of the story.

Finding pain medication hidden inside Cassie's cardigan pocket, Steve realises there is a direct link between the missing tablets and Ross's drink. The discovery leaves little room for doubt about who was responsible.

As the truth emerges, Cassie's carefully constructed plan rapidly falls apart, exposing the lengths she has gone to in her determination to push Ross away.

Tyrone is left devastated

For Tyrone, the revelation is another crushing blow. Throughout Ross's arrival, Cassie has insisted she was only trying to protect her son, but her latest actions leave those claims impossible to defend.

With Steve also rejecting her after uncovering the evidence, Cassie suddenly finds herself isolated from the very people she believed she was helping.

Having risked so much to remove Ross from the family's lives, Cassie is instead left facing the fallout from her own decisions as those closest to her struggle to forgive what she has done.

Whether she can rebuild those relationships remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: her latest scheme has changed the McDonald and Dobbs families forever.
