Coronation Street: What’s coming up next week? 26 to 31 July preview

A mystery surrounding Jodie leaves the Platts fearing the worst, Cassie continues her mission to expose Ross, Idris makes a big impression on Weatherfield and Betsy prepares for a new chapter after hospital. Here’s everything to look out for on the cobbles over the coming week.

The week begins with fresh concern for the Platts after Shona confronts her sister Jodie over attacking Sarah. Amid the fallout, Lily is left stunned when she spots what appears to be a gun inside Jodie’s trinket box. Later, Jodie attempts to calm everyone’s fears by revealing the weapon is actually a fake.

Elsewhere, Nick, Leanne and Toyah are delighted to welcome Sam home. The youngster is also introduced to Leanne’s new boyfriend, Idris, who wastes little time making an impression. After Leanne explains that Alya is spending much of her time focusing on legal work, Idris offers to buy Alya’s share of the restaurant before later revealing a family secret that could have major consequences.

Harper’s return home should be a happy occasion as family and friends gather for a surprise party, but the celebrations are interrupted when Jodie arrives unexpectedly. She reveals she has told the police about the assault before asking if she can move back in, leaving her family with another difficult decision to make.

Jodie later shows a different side to herself when she scares away bullies targeting young Harry before launching an online forum designed to support new mums. Meanwhile, Carla tells Lisa she wants to visit Sarah because both she and Harry are struggling without her.

Carla also has encouraging news for Betsy after learning from her doctor that she should soon be discharged from hospital. Although Betsy is relieved to be going home, she admits she is anxious about what lies ahead. When she finally returns home, Betsy soon realises adjusting to her new reality will not be easy.

Cassie refuses to let her concerns about Ross rest. She gathers Steve, Tyrone, Tracy and Ross together before introducing them to Ross’s former girlfriend Alison. Cassie accuses Ross of stealing from Alison and threatening her, but Ross insists he has changed and reveals he will be staying locally because he has secured a new job.

Ross’s birthday brings everyone together again when Fiz hosts a celebration, but Cassie can no longer bite her tongue. Convinced she has to stop Ross from moving forward, she secretly drugs his smoothie in a desperate attempt to prevent him from starting work.

Cassie’s actions soon come back to haunt her. Steve discovers painkillers in her pocket and blames her for Tracy’s recent ordeal, bringing their relationship to an abrupt end. Tyrone also reaches the end of his patience and throws Cassie out, leaving her facing an uncertain future.

Another battle begins when Adam confirms he will represent Abi against Idris. Furious, Idris and Leanne decide to teach Adam a lesson by paying Brody to intimidate him, adding another layer to the growing conflict.

There is also tension for Nina after she finds Asha in bed with Sienna. Once Sienna leaves, Nina discovers her pay packet has disappeared and immediately accuses Sienna of stealing it, threatening to create another rift between the trio.

Away from the bigger dramas, Debbie enjoys herself a little too much at Sally and Tim’s garden party before embarrassing herself after drinking heavily. Realising she has gone too far, Debbie later promises to go teetotal.

From Lily’s shocking discovery and Jodie’s latest bombshell to Idris’s arrival, Cassie’s desperate actions, Betsy’s homecoming and fresh conflict for Nina, Asha and Sienna, Weatherfield is set for another eventful week.
