Coronation Street Todd’s Thailand Return Takes a Dark Turn

Todd Grimshaw’s return to Weatherfield is set to take a worrying turn in Coronation Street as his determination to keep partying begins to concern the people closest to him.

After returning from Thailand, Todd appears keen to carry on enjoying himself rather than settling quietly back into everyday life. Nights out and drinking initially seem like Todd simply making the most of being home, but it soon becomes apparent that his behaviour may be hiding something much deeper.

Todd has endured a difficult year, and his increasing reliance on alcohol appears to be connected to an attempt to numb some of the pain he is carrying. Instead of openly confronting what he has been through, Todd throws himself into distractions and continues drinking, even as those around him begin noticing the change.

Following another drinking session with Christina, Todd talks with Mary and Glenda about how much he has been boozing. Glenda becomes particularly concerned and decides that staying quiet is no longer helping him, leading her to deliver a warning Todd finds difficult to accept.

Glenda tells him that if he continues behaving this way, he could eventually end up with no friends. Although her words appear to come from genuine concern, Todd hears them very differently and believes she has deliberately humiliated him.

The confrontation quickly damages their friendship, but Todd’s reaction may also reveal just how vulnerable he currently is. Glenda touches on something he seemingly does not want to acknowledge, and his anger becomes another way of avoiding the uncomfortable reasons behind his behaviour.

His resentment towards Glenda then begins influencing his decisions elsewhere. When newcomer Celeste later tells Todd a secret involving Glenda’s apparent romantic interest in her driver Fraser, Todd is presented with the opportunity to warn his friend before she becomes embarrassed.

Instead, Todd begins considering revenge. The situation leaves Todd at a crossroads. His trip to Thailand may have provided an escape, but returning home means the emotions waiting for him have not simply disappeared, and drinking his way through them could create entirely new problems.

Todd has people around him who clearly notice when something is wrong, even if their attempts to help are not always delivered in the way he wants. Whether he eventually recognises Glenda’s concern or continues pushing her away could become one of the most important parts of what happens next.
