Coronation Street Leanne Betrayed as Idris Uses Her £5,000
Leanne is left furious when she discovers Idris secretly used £5,000 she lent him to fund a rigged poker game at Speed Daal.
Leanne Battersby is set to make a devastating discovery in Coronation Street when she learns Idris Sharma has secretly used £5,000 of her money as part of his risky plan to secure a future at Speed Daal.
Idris is desperate to raise the cash he needs after Alya Nazir tells him she wants £50,000 for her share of the restaurant. With Idris still £15,000 short, his attention turns to an unusual way of making up some of the difference when he discovers Ollie knows his way around a poker table.
A private game is arranged at Speed Daal, with Idris planning to manipulate the odds in Ollie’s favour. Idris provides Ollie with the money to play and promises him a share of the winnings, convinced that a rigged result will allow him to raise more cash without taking the sort of gamble it appears to be.
There is one detail Leanne knows nothing about: £5,000 of the money Idris is using has been borrowed from her.
Idris does not appear to believe he is genuinely putting Leanne’s money in danger because he expects the poker game to produce the result he has arranged. However, keeping such a major decision from Leanne creates a very different problem, particularly when the truth eventually reaches her.
The game itself appears to go Idris’s way as Ollie survives the table and eventually finds himself facing Fiona Middleton. Ollie comes out on top, seemingly leaving Idris relieved that his plan has worked.
His celebrations do not last.
Brody has been secretly drinking during the poker night, and when Idris discovers what he has been doing, he confronts him. Brody responds by going to Leanne and revealing what Idris has done behind her back.
Leanne is far from impressed.
When she later sees Idris outside Speed Daal, she makes it clear just how angry she is and tells him he is no longer welcome in the restaurant. Idris follows her, desperately trying to explain why he used the money and why he believed it was safe.
His defence is that the poker game had been rigged, meaning Leanne’s £5,000 was supposedly never genuinely at risk. That explanation may make sense to Idris, but it does little to change the fact that Leanne was never given the choice.
The bigger question now is what the revelation will do to their relationship. Idris has been so focused on securing Speed Daal that he has kept Leanne in the dark about how her money was being used, and her furious response makes clear that the fallout is about far more than whether the gamble paid off.
Idris may have won at the poker table, but repairing Leanne’s trust could prove far more difficult.
