Coronation Street Kit faces cancer shock after family truth
Kit Green is rocked by a devastating family revelation before his stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis in a major new Coronation Street storyline.
ITV has confirmed that Kit Green will be diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, giving an upcoming family revelation in Coronation Street even greater significance.
Gemma Winter-Brown breaks awful news to Kit following Celeste’s death, revealing the truth about a possible familial BRCA gene mutation within their family. The discovery raises serious questions for Bernie, Gemma and Kit, with genetic testing set to become part of the storyline.
What Gemma does not realise is that Kit has already been seeking medical help over concerns about his own health.
ITV has confirmed that Kit will ultimately learn he has stage 3 breast cancer, leaving him floored by a diagnosis he never expected. The storyline will follow him through diagnosis, denial and treatment while exploring the impact on his family and his own sense of identity.
Jacob Roberts, who plays Kit, admitted that he previously did not realise men could develop breast cancer.
“I genuinely didn’t know that men could get breast cancer and I felt, to make it authentic, that Kit shouldn't know that men can get breast cancer either.”
Jacob explained that speaking with charities and men who have experienced breast cancer helped him prepare for the storyline.
“Speaking to the charities and male survivors has been really insightful, lots of men don't know they can get this and for Kit it’s that utter disbelief of how can this be”
Coronation Street has worked with Macmillan Cancer Support and Breast Cancer Now on the storyline, which aims to raise awareness of male breast cancer and encourage people to seek medical advice if they notice changes.
With viewers now knowing what lies ahead for Kit, Gemma’s family revelation takes on a much more serious meaning. While Kit initially has no idea where his own health concerns will lead, he is heading towards a diagnosis that will dramatically change his life.
