Coronation Street Glenda Shuttleworth Bags Date With Fraser

Glenda Shuttleworth looks set to enjoy some unexpected romantic attention in Coronation Street when she takes a shine to newcomer Fraser. The Rovers favourite is thrilled when their encounter goes well enough for her to get his number, and it is not long before the pair arrange a date.

For Glenda, the prospect appears to be a welcome bit of fun as she starts looking forward to spending more time with Fraser. However, she does not yet have the full picture, and somebody much closer to home is about to discover something that Glenda does not know.

Todd Grimshaw later learns that Fraser is gay, meaning Glenda has misunderstood the nature of their connection. The potential embarrassment comes from that misunderstanding rather than Fraser’s sexuality, but Todd’s reaction threatens to make what could have been cleared up fairly easily considerably more uncomfortable for his friend.

The discovery comes at a particularly bad moment for Todd and Glenda because their normally close friendship is already under pressure. Todd has returned from Thailand determined to continue enjoying himself, but his drinking is beginning to concern the people around him as the nights out continue.

After another drinking session on Canal Street with Christina, Todd tells Mary and Glenda just how much he has been drinking. Glenda responds with a stark warning, telling Todd that if he continues behaving badly towards his friends, he could eventually find himself without any of them.

Todd is deeply offended by what Glenda says and believes she has humiliated him rather than tried to help him. With their argument still fresh, discovering that Glenda is excited about a man who is not romantically interested in women gives Todd an opportunity to get his own back.

Rather than immediately clearing up the misunderstanding, Todd begins forming a plan involving Fraser and the unsuspecting Glenda. It is a spiteful response to somebody who has been concerned about him, and it could leave their friendship in an even worse position if Glenda discovers what Todd has been doing.

There is also something very Glenda about the way the situation begins. Confident, flirtatious and never exactly shy about making her feelings known, she believes an unexpected encounter with Fraser may have opened the door to a new date and is understandably pleased when she gets his number.

What Glenda does not realise is that her disagreement with Todd has now become tangled up with her romantic hopes. Todd knows something she does not, and instead of simply telling his friend, his bruised pride appears to be pushing him towards using the situation as revenge.

That could turn what begins as a relatively light misunderstanding into a much bigger test of Todd and Glenda’s friendship. Glenda may soon discover that the biggest issue was never whether her date with Fraser could lead anywhere, but what one of her closest friends chose to do once he knew that it could not.
