Coronation Street Brody faces worrying cancer risk after Kit diagnosis

Kit’s breast cancer diagnosis is about to have repercussions beyond his own treatment in Coronation Street, with Brody facing an unsettling question about what his dad’s illness could potentially mean for him.

Coming up, Brody visits Kit as he prepares for his first chemotherapy session.

Kit puts on a brave face and allows his son to shave his hair, before Brody later makes it clear just how desperately he needs his dad to keep fighting.

Could Brody inherit an increased cancer risk?

Male breast cancer is rare, but some cases can be associated with inherited changes in genes including BRCA1 and BRCA2. That means a diagnosis can sometimes have implications for biological relatives as well as the person undergoing treatment.

Kit’s breast cancer diagnosis raises another worrying Coronation Street question as Brody faces what the illness could mean for his own future.

The NHS says people can inherit a faulty gene such as BRCA that increases their risk of developing certain cancers. Importantly, Kit having breast cancer does not automatically mean he carries one of those inherited changes, and it certainly does not mean Brody has inherited one.

Genetic testing can help establish whether an inherited gene change is involved.

If Coronation Street takes Kit's story in that direction, Brody could eventually face decisions about whether he wants to know more about his own risk.
