Coronation Street Betsy Swain has both mums by her side

Betsy is determined to give her college interview her best shot in Coronation Street, with Carla and Lisa supporting her as she works towards her future. Her return to Underworld offers a chance to practise, although being back at a sewing machine proves difficult.

Having secured an interview for a local fashion course, Betsy wants to sharpen her skills beforehand. Returning to the factory means she can try in familiar surroundings, with people around her who want her to succeed.

Carla keeps an eye on her as she settles back into work. When Betsy struggles, her stepmum wraps her arms around her, offering comfort during a moment that brings home how much has changed since her strokes.

Betsy’s enthusiasm for fashion is still there, but operating the machine is harder than it used to be. The return gives her an opportunity to practise while also confronting the difficulties she continues to face.

Sean notices that she is having trouble and offers to help. His connection to Dylan adds an uncomfortable element given everything that has happened, although his offer is intended to assist her.

As the interview approaches, Betsy becomes nervous about the occasion itself. Lisa makes time to accompany her, ensuring she does not have to face it alone.

Her mum understands that Betsy may need practical support as well as reassurance. Going with her means being there for both, while Betsy takes another step towards the career she wants.

Carla’s affection at the factory and Lisa’s presence at the interview give Betsy support in two different settings. She is pursuing her own ambition, with both mums beside her through the difficult parts.

Coronation Street continues on ITV1. Episodes are also available on ITVX.
