Code of Silence Series 2: Rose Ayling-Ellis Returns as Filming Begins on New ITV Thriller

Rose Ayling-Ellis is officially back on set as filming gets underway on the second series of ITV’s BAFTA-winning thriller Code of Silence. The six-part drama returns with Rose reprising her acclaimed role as Alison Brooks, alongside several familiar faces and an impressive line-up of new cast members.

Two years on, Alison has completed her forensic lip-reading training with the police and is called in to assist with a high-stakes surveillance operation. The investigation centres on Ruby, played by Emily Head, who becomes caught up in a sophisticated money-laundering syndicate after illicit cash is discovered hidden inside her car.

Ruby is released on bail but soon finds herself trapped between police scrutiny and dangerous criminals, before becoming the victim of a brutal attack. Alison is tasked with decoding crucial CCTV footage, but the investigation takes an increasingly disturbing turn as secrets emerge and the danger begins moving much closer to home.

Series two will also see Alison tackling her first murder investigation as an official member of the police team. Creator Catherine Moulton teased the challenges ahead, saying: “Now she’s officially part of the police team she’s keen to make her mark,” while adding that Alison will struggle with the boundaries of her new role as she becomes convinced there is more to the case than initially appears.

Rose said she was delighted to return, commenting: “I am so happy to be back on set with the brilliant cast and crew that made working on the first series such a delight.” She added that she was also looking forward to welcoming the new members joining the production.

Andrew Buchanan, John Bishop, Nathan Armarkwei Laryea and Fifi Garfield are among the returning cast. New arrivals include Jonah Hauer-King, Jo Joyner, Sophie McShera, John Hollingworth, Sasha Desouza-Willock and Emily Head.

The first series proved a major success, with its opening episode reaching a consolidated audience of 7.5 million viewers and the full series generating more than 20 million streams. The production will once again feature talent from Deaf, disabled and neurodiverse communities both on and off screen.

A broadcast date for series two has not yet been announced. The first series of Code of Silence is currently available to stream on ITVX, with the drama also available through STV Player and BritBox in the US and Canada.
