Apple TV 4K Adds Conversational Siri AI and A19 Chip
Apple announced a new Apple TV 4K on 13 October 2026, featuring an A19 chip, hands-free Siri, an AV1 decoder and upgraded home cinema features.
Apple is bringing conversational artificial intelligence further into the living room with its latest Apple TV 4K, announced on 13 October 2026. The new streaming device combines an upgraded processor with hands-free voice control and a more capable version of Siri designed to help viewers discover films and television programmes.
The biggest change is the introduction of Siri AI to Apple TV. Instead of relying solely on short commands such as asking to play a particular programme, viewers can use more natural questions to explore entertainment options and find information about what they are watching.
Apple’s examples include asking which programmes won major awards or requesting information about a series without leaving the current viewing experience. Responses can appear on screen, allowing viewers to find out more while keeping their programme in view.
The new device is powered by Apple’s A19 chip. Apple claims it delivers up to 50 per cent faster CPU performance and up to twice the GPU performance of the previous generation. These are manufacturer comparisons rather than independently verified benchmark results.
Another important addition is a dedicated AV1 video decoder. AV1 is a video compression format designed to deliver good picture quality with more efficient use of data. Hardware decoding can help a device process compatible streams more efficiently, although the benefits viewers experience will depend on the streaming service, video format and available connection.
The new Apple TV 4K also includes three far-field microphones, allowing users to speak to Siri without having to hold the remote close to their mouths. Apple says its echo-cancellation technology is designed to distinguish spoken commands from sound coming through the television.
The Siri Remote gains support for Apple’s Find My feature, helping users locate a misplaced remote using a compatible iPhone. The device can also work with compatible HomePod speakers to create a more immersive home cinema setup, with Apple describing support for a four-speaker arrangement and automatic audio calibration.
AI availability is an important consideration. The new features depend on supported software, languages and regions, so not every Siri function will necessarily be available to every customer immediately. Viewers should check Apple’s current compatibility and availability information before buying the device specifically for its AI capabilities.
The new Apple TV 4K is listed at £299 in the UK, a substantial increase on the previous generation’s original launch price. Apple’s announcement gives 13 November 2026 as the release date, although availability information has not been entirely consistent across its published material.
The update reflects a broader shift in streaming devices, with manufacturers increasingly treating AI as a way to improve content discovery rather than simply adding another voice-command feature. Whether the higher price is justified will depend on how useful Siri proves in everyday viewing and how quickly its conversational capabilities become available to UK customers.
