American Horror Story Season 13 Brings Back Jessica Lange and Iconic Characters for Halloween

American Horror Story has brought some of its most unforgettable characters back from the dead for its thirteenth season, with Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters leading a huge cast reunion.

The latest instalment, titled American Horror Story: 13, premiered on Disney+ in the UK on 25 September 2026 and brings together familiar faces from across the anthology’s 15-year history. With Halloween approaching, viewers can revisit some of the show’s most notorious villains, witches and supernatural figures in a crossover that connects several previous seasons.

Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the horror anthology has reinvented itself with each new storyline since launching in 2011. This time, rather than introducing an entirely separate world, the series draws on its own history, bringing characters from Murder House, Coven, Hotel and Cult into the same story.

Jessica Lange returns to American Horror Story

One of the biggest attractions of Season 13 is the return of Jessica Lange, who last appeared in the anthology in 2018.

The acclaimed actress reprises several of her most recognisable characters, including Constance Langdon from Murder House, Sister Jude from Asylum, Fiona Goode from Coven and Elsa Mars from Freak Show.

Her return is particularly significant for longtime viewers, having helped establish the anthology’s reputation during its earliest seasons. From the manipulative Constance to the formidable Supreme witch Fiona, Lange’s performances remain among the show’s most celebrated.

Sarah Paulson also returns in multiple roles, including Cordelia Goode, while Evan Peters revisits Tate Langdon, cult leader Kai Anderson and the sinister hotel owner James Patrick March.

Angela Bassett returns as Marie Laveau, Emma Roberts reprises Madison Montgomery, and Kathy Bates is back as Madame Delphine LaLaurie.

Other returning performers include Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, John Carroll Lynch and Jamie Brewer.

What is American Horror Story Season 13 about?

The new season follows Ben DeSoto, played by Joey Pollari, a hospice worker whose latest assignment leads him into an increasingly disturbing mystery.

Ben is recruited and trained by Constance Langdon to care for a wealthy elderly patient with a mysterious past. As he learns more about his surroundings, his work becomes connected to events involving characters from earlier instalments.

The number 13 repeatedly appears throughout the story, while familiar locations, faces and supernatural threats help connect the anthology’s different worlds.

Although the crossover rewards viewers who have followed the series for years, Ben’s storyline also provides an introduction for those discovering American Horror Story for the first time.

New faces join the returning cast

Alongside the established performers, Season 13 introduces several newcomers to the anthology.

Joey Pollari takes a central role as Ben, while Paul Anthony Kelly and filmmaker John Waters also join the cast. Kelly previously appeared in FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.

The wider cast includes Frances Conroy, Jamie Brewer, Madelaine Petsch, Mena Suvari, Tig Notaro and several additional performers.

The combination of returning stars and new characters gives the season an opportunity to revisit earlier storylines while developing a mystery of its own.

How many episodes are in American Horror Story Season 13?

The thirteenth instalment features 13 half-hour episodes, with Disney+ releasing them in batches throughout September and October.

The first three episodes arrived in the UK on 25 September, followed by another three on 2 October. Two episodes were then released on both 9 and 16 October.

The next two episodes arrive on Friday 23 October, before the season concludes with its thirteenth episode on Friday 30 October, immediately before Halloween.

The release schedule means viewers can catch up on the existing episodes before the final instalments arrive.

Do you need to watch previous seasons?

Although American Horror Story: 13 introduces a new central character, viewers familiar with earlier instalments will recognise many of the returning faces and their histories.

Murder House, Coven, Hotel and Cult are particularly useful starting points for anyone wanting to understand the connections. Other seasons, including Asylum and Freak Show, provide further background to Jessica Lange’s returning characters.

The previous instalment, American Horror Story: Delicate, followed actress Anna Victoria Alcott, played by Emma Roberts, as she faced disturbing events while trying to start a family.

Unlike that largely self-contained storyline, Season 13 celebrates the anthology’s history by bringing several of its established worlds together.

Where to watch American Horror Story Season 13 in the UK

American Horror Story: 13 is streaming exclusively on Disney+ in the UK, with new episodes arriving every Friday until 30 October 2026.

All previous seasons are also available on the streaming platform, giving viewers an opportunity to revisit earlier stories and recognise the returning characters before the Halloween finale.
