George Michael's Faith Tour Returns to Cinemas With Unseen 1988 Concert Footage

George Michael's landmark Faith Tour is returning to the screen in a new concert film opening in UK cinemas and IMAX on Friday 6 November 2026.

Created from previously unseen 35mm footage recorded in Paris in 1988, George Michael: The Faith Tour combines a restored live performance with a newly made introductory short by photographer and filmmaker Mary McCartney.

Universal Pictures has confirmed the British release date, and cinema listings independently show screenings for the film.

The release gives audiences an opportunity to revisit a defining period of Michael's solo career, when the success of Faith transformed the singer's international profile.

Rather than relying on contemporary tribute performances, the film places the original artist and his live musicians at the centre of the experience.

What was filmed during the 1988 Faith Tour?

The concert footage comes from Michael's performances at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in 1988. The material was shot on 35mm film and has been restored and remastered for large-format cinema presentation.

Directors David Austin and Andy Morahan have used those recordings to recreate a live concert experience from a period when Michael was moving beyond his earlier fame with Wham!.

For fans, the value lies in being able to see a concert that has not previously been available in this complete cinematic form. The images document the stage production, Michael's performance and the atmosphere surrounding a tour associated with one of the most successful albums of the decade.

Why Mary McCartney's short film matters

The concert is preceded by Finding Faith, an original short film directed by Mary McCartney. It draws on newly discovered audio and imagery from 1986 to 1988, presenting Michael's thoughts and public life during the years around the Faith album. Universal describes the accompanying film as a portrait of the singer at a significant turning point.

The addition means the release is not simply a straightforward recording of a live show. The introductory film places the performance within the wider cultural moment that made the tour important to audiences around the world.

When can UK audiences watch it?

The UK and Irish cinema release is Friday 6 November 2026, as per Universal's official announcement. Individual cinema schedules and formats differ by location, so fans should check local listings for screening times and IMAX availability.
