AI filmmakers can win IMAX screening and series deal

AI filmmakers have until midday on Sunday 11 October to enter a free London competition offering an IMAX screening, more than $50,000 in prizes and credits, and the chance to have a winning idea developed into a funded series.

Big Screen Hack London brings filmmakers and AI developers together to create short films, pilots and adverts. People can enter online or take part in London, with individuals and teams of up to five accepted.

Winning films head to IMAX

The main filmmaking challenge asks creators to produce a pilot lasting between two and five minutes. Filmmakers can also enter something they have already made, provided they own or have permission to use everything within it.

A shortlist will screen at an IMAX in London on Friday 16 October. The event takes place during the BFI London Film Festival period but is independent and is not part of the festival’s official programme.

The Greenlight challenge offers the biggest long-term opportunity. Its winning concept will be developed into a funded series with Fairground and StoryMachine, alongside up to $20,000 of StoryMachine credits.

The full competition rules make clear that development is part of the prize but eventual broadcast is not guaranteed. More than $50,000 in prizes and production credits are available across the wider event.

How can you enter?

Entry is free and open to people aged 18 or over. Creators can enter alone or in teams of up to five and can participate online from anywhere legally permitted, meaning you do not have to be in London.

Entries must be in English or include English subtitles, while filmmakers also have to declare the AI tools, footage, music and other material used in their production.

Submissions close at 12pm UK time on Sunday 11 October, although early entries submitted before judging begins are guaranteed to be judged.
