Why Darnell refuses to help Denise Fox in EastEnders donor dilemma

Darnell faces an incredibly difficult decision in upcoming EastEnders scenes when it emerges that he could potentially help Denise as she desperately needs a stem-cell transplant. His reluctance to be tested initially causes frustration, but there is an important reason behind his decision.

Denise's situation has become increasingly urgent after the donor she had been waiting for failed to come forward. Darnell then reveals that he could potentially be a match, seemingly offering another possibility at a time when the family desperately needs one.

However, Darnell does not immediately agree to be tested. He reiterates his fears and trauma surrounding hospitals, leaving him unable to simply put those feelings aside despite the seriousness of Denise's situation.

The information released for the upcoming scenes does not explain the source of Darnell's hospital trauma, so it remains unclear exactly what happened in his past. What is established is that his fear is significant enough to affect his decision over whether to take the next step.

Denise initially struggles with the situation but ultimately accepts her brother's feelings rather than attempting to force him into changing his mind. Jack reacts differently and finds it much harder to understand why Darnell will not immediately pursue the possibility of helping her.
