Who Is Catarina in High Tides and What Does She Want From Clara and Valerie?

Catarina has quickly become an important new presence in High Tides. Her interest in Clara is clearly personal, while her conversations with Valerie introduce a serious professional possibility.

Episodes 19–21 establish what Catarina wants from them right now, but they do not reveal her complete plan. What is clear is that Clara will not allow Catarina’s arrival to create uncertainty about her relationship with Valerie.

Who is Catarina in High Tides?

Catarina is a confident new character who enters Clara and Valerie’s lives with both personal and professional intentions. She is attracted to Clara, but she also recognises qualities in Valerie that could be valuable to her.

Catarina already knows significant details about Valerie’s past. She mentions an incident from four years earlier in which Valerie defended Gabby and nearly beat a man to death.

Rather than treating that history only as evidence of Valerie’s temper, Catarina focuses on the loyalty behind it. She believes Valerie’s willingness to protect someone should not be mistaken for weakness.

What does Catarina want from Clara?

Catarina openly tells Clara that she wants her to work for her. Her flirtation also makes it clear that her interest is not limited to Clara’s professional abilities.

Clara refuses to be treated as someone Catarina can simply obtain. She tells Catarina that she is not for sale and that she will not go anywhere without Valerie.

That response makes Clara’s position unmistakable. Catarina may be interested in her, but Clara does not consider her relationship with Valerie negotiable.

What opportunity does Catarina see in Valerie?

Catarina appears impressed by Valerie’s ability to remain controlled in a difficult situation. She describes the way Valerie dealt with a waiter as precise, showing that she sees something useful in how Valerie handles confrontation.

Her knowledge of the earlier incident involving Gabby adds to that interest. Catarina understands that Valerie is fiercely loyal and prepared to act when someone she cares about is threatened.

The episodes therefore show that Valerie is not merely standing between Catarina and Clara. Catarina sees professional potential in her, although the exact nature and future of that opportunity have not yet been fully explained.

Is Catarina trying to separate Clara and Valerie?

The episodes do not confirm that Catarina intends to break Clara and Valerie apart. Her attraction to Clara causes jealousy, but that is not the same as evidence of a deliberate plan to end their relationship.

The episodes confirm that Catarina wants Clara to work for her and believes Valerie has valuable abilities. They do not yet explain everything she hopes to gain from bringing both women closer.

For now, Clara has already given Catarina the most important part of her answer. Any opportunity involving Clara will also have to include Valerie.
