When Brooke Vincent joined Hollyoaks as Abigail Matthews, viewers were introduced to a woman who appeared to be compassionate, approachable and keen to help those around her.

However, it has now been confirmed that first impressions could not have been more misleading.

Upcoming scenes reveal that Abigail is hiding a disturbing secret, with Hollyoaks confirming she will become the central figure in a major safeguarding storyline that explores grooming by someone in a position of trust.

Abigail is first introduced into Dee Dee’s life as her drugs counsellor, putting her in a professional role where trust is naturally expected. Rather than offering genuine support, Abigail begins to exploit that position, carefully building a relationship with the vulnerable teenager at a time when she is struggling to come to terms with Diane’s death.

As the story develops, Abigail also takes up a teaching role at Hollyoaks High, giving her even greater access to young people. While those around her see a respected professional, viewers will gradually discover that she has a much darker agenda.

One of the most unsettling aspects of the storyline is how ordinary Abigail initially appears. She does not arrive in the village behaving suspiciously or drawing attention to herself. Instead, she earns the confidence of those around her by presenting herself as someone who simply wants to help.

That approach makes her actions even more chilling, as Hollyoaks highlights how abuse of trust can happen in environments where people feel safe.

For Brooke Vincent, the role marks a dramatic change from the much loved Sophie Webster, whom she played in Coronation Street for almost two decades. Abigail is a far more manipulative and calculating character, allowing the actress to showcase a completely different side to her acting.

Rather than relying on dramatic twists from the outset, Hollyoaks appears to be taking a slower approach as Abigail gradually gains Dee Dee’s confidence before her true intentions become clear. That measured storytelling reflects the reality of many grooming cases, where trust is often built over time before boundaries are crossed.

As more details emerge, Abigail Matthews looks set to become one of Hollyoaks’ most talked about new characters, with Brooke Vincent taking centre stage in a storyline that promises to leave a lasting impact on the village.
