Who Are Dawn’s Children in Emmerdale? Her Complicated Family Explained
Who are Dawn’s children in Emmerdale? As her funeral approaches, we explain Lucas, Clemmie, Evan, her newborn baby and the family connections.
Dawn Fletcher’s children are at the centre of an emotional Emmerdale storyline this week as the family prepares for her funeral following her tragic death.
Dawn died shortly after giving birth to a baby boy with Joe Tate following the devastating events surrounding their wedding. Her death left Joe grieving his new wife and the mother of his newborn son, while Billy and the children Dawn had previously raised were left facing their own loss.

That complicated family situation is driving this week’s episodes. On Thursday 17 September 2026, Billy is devastated when Joe refuses to allow him, Clemmie, Lucas and Evan to attend Dawn’s funeral.
Things change on Friday 18 September when Clemmie manages to get through to Joe. He finally agrees that Billy and the children should be allowed to attend and say goodbye to Dawn.
The scenes put Dawn’s family firmly back at the centre of Emmerdale. But with biological children, half-siblings, adoption, special guardianship and now a newborn baby with Joe involved, working out exactly how everyone is related can get confusing.
Is Lucas Dawn’s son?

Yes. Lucas Taylor is Dawn’s biological son with her former partner Alex Moore.
Dawn initially struggled to care for Lucas during a difficult period in her life, and he spent time in foster care. After rebuilding her life, Dawn fought to have her son back with her.

Billy later became an important father figure to Lucas and formally adopted him in 2023. That means Alex is Lucas’s biological father, while Billy is his adoptive father. Lucas is also the link connecting Dawn’s family to Clemmie.
Is Clemmie Dawn’s daughter?

Not biologically, although Dawn raised Clemmie as one of her children.
Clemmie Reed is the biological daughter of Alex Moore and Beth Reed. That makes Clemmie and Lucas half-siblings because they share the same biological father, Alex.
Dawn discovered Clemmie in terrible circumstances in 2022 following Beth’s death and later learned that Alex was her biological father.
Dawn and Billy fought to give Clemmie a stable home and eventually became her special guardians. From that point onwards, Clemmie was raised as part of their family alongside Lucas.

That relationship becomes particularly significant again on Friday 18 September. It is Clemmie who manages to change Joe’s mind and ensure Dawn’s family can attend her funeral.
Who are Evan’s parents?

Evan Fletcher is Dawn and Billy’s biological son and was born in December 2023.
That makes Evan the younger maternal half-brother of Lucas through Dawn. Clemmie and Evan were also raised together as siblings, although they do not share a biological parent.
Evan later became the focus of a major storyline after being diagnosed with leukaemia as a baby, putting Dawn and Billy’s family through an incredibly difficult period.
What about Dawn and Joe’s baby?

Dawn also gave birth to a baby boy with Joe shortly before her death, making him her youngest biological child.
The new arrival adds another branch to an already complicated family. He is a maternal half-brother to Lucas and Evan through Dawn, while Joe is his biological father.
He was born during the dramatic events surrounding Dawn and Joe’s wedding, with Dawn dying shortly afterwards.
The baby also helps explain why Joe is now so central to the aftermath of Dawn’s death and the arrangements surrounding her funeral.
How are Dawn’s children related?
The easiest way to understand Dawn’s family is to start with Lucas. He is Dawn and Alex’s biological son, while Clemmie is Alex and Beth’s daughter. Lucas and Clemmie are therefore paternal half-siblings.
Evan is Dawn and Billy’s biological son, making Lucas and Evan maternal half-brothers. Dawn’s newborn son with Joe is also a maternal half-brother to both Lucas and Evan.
Clemmie does not share a biological parent with Evan or Dawn and Joe’s baby, but all of the children became connected through the family Dawn built around them.
That complicated history makes this week’s funeral dispute particularly significant. Biology may explain the family tree, but Dawn spent years bringing the children together as a family. Now, as Clemmie fights to ensure they can all say goodbye, those relationships are being brought back to the forefront at the most painful possible moment.
Emmerdale continues on ITV1, ITVX and YouTube.
